It's free, because technically the transfer "fails". So, you go through all the motions and even give them a valid credit card. But, no charge will go through. Yet, you will get your new character with the respec device.

I did notice on my online credit card summary that there was a "temporary authorization" of $50, but it never went through and soon disappeared. So, just make sure you have the room on your credit card for a couple days.
Exactly. Thank you for clearing that up. Seeing as I had to do this multiple times because they wouldn't allow -'s in my name, I had quite a few of these "temporary authorizations" lol. Wasn't cool, but all good now.

This probably doesn't work on accounts created after NGE correct?

Is there anyway we can be more clear on this process? I attempted to do this last night, but after reading the original post I was uncertain on a few steps.. and I dont want to spend 50$ AND move a character I dont want to move :)

am I correct in these steps? :

1 - select a Pre-NGE character on server # 1, who has a respec deed. Lets say his name is Bob'
2 - select a different server , server # 2, that you want to 'transfer' this character to, and create a character with the same name as Bob'
3 - start the character transfer process, transfering Bob' #1 character to server #2. Get an error saying "that name already exists" on the website.
------- at this point I am a little unclear to do, do I change the name to whatever i want at that point? or do I change the name to Bob- or something similar?

After it accepts the name, I assume I go through the rest of the process, enter my credit card approval, and wait for an email that says there was an error. And then there will be a level 1 character on Server #2 named Bob' or Bob- with a free respec deed ?

Is this the correct way to do this, or am I messing up somehow?

Thank you!

Yes the way you said it is exactly how it goes, but I would be careful with the name process. I would go with something more along the lines of -Bob-. This will force the server to accept the name even though the error in which you will receive says it can't accept that name.

And as far as I know this isn't nerfed admin. Who said it was nerfed?

Nay you guys, guildhalls dont transfer over to people if they have any no trade items in them so it would be impossible to level a low level to 90, but thats just a nay on the lvling trick u mentioned not to being able to make the toons or any of that.

City hall will still work. Say you have an alt level 5. You get to level 90 on one character (say an entertainer) you can then set up a city, most likely a small population server nowadays. Set the respec device in the city hall and start voting for you alt. When he/she becomes mayor, everything inside the city hall will become your alts. You can then level to 90 instantly. Now I think the best way is the $30 transfer people are using right now. But, when that is nerfed, this will be the way to do it if you're really desperate about getting to level 90 without the effort.

I dont believe you need to be pre nge or have the char respec device on the char you are transferring. I attempted to transfer a couple times and was having the name issue. each time it errored i had a respec device. my account isnt even a year old.
