Vanguard Exploits - Counterspell bug : Vanguard Confirmed Cheats / Exploits

i just recently found out that counterspell is not supposed to work this way....

if you play a caster you know that in order for counterspell to be used the spell first has to be identitifed and you have to wind a "weakness" or whatever before counterspell is activated and you can use it, basuically this doesnt happen very often.

well if you simply take counterspell and place it on your hotbar and use a hotkey to trigger it you can cast it whenever you like, even when nothing is being cast.

this is helpful in not only raising your counterspelling skill super fast, but obviously is nice on the pvp servers as well.

I figured that was a widly known thing. And yes, it does work in pvp.

The downside of placeing counterspell on your hotbar is the reuse of the spell is different. If you get the reaction up to counterspell, it actually refreash's faster than if you were to click the button directly on your hotbar. I also have never been able to get the counterspell skill to increase unless it was tied in with the actual reaction. Not just randomly clicked every time it is up. But then this may just be me. I have not been able to get this skill to increase.

all you gotta do to skill up is go find some caster mobs and let them aggro on you, watch for when they start casting and hit counterspell.

Yes, and no.

Yes, you can spam cast it whenever you want, but that doesn't raise your counterspell skill.

Near as I can tell, your skill in counter spell means absolutely nothing.

It will raise EVERY time you use it while the timer is going off. Even when you are a level 21 character preforming your very first counter spell on a 25 4 dot, it will work every time that you use it while the counter is on. (Note that on VERY rare occasions, they will resist your counter spell, but the freequency of this is based on the mob, not your skill in counter spell. The 26 psionist I have with a maxed out counter spell fails as much as my 24 necro with his under 30 counter spell skill, or any other of the batch of level 20ish characters I have do. (I ground all of them on clouds till level 20-21, so they went from level 8ish to 20-21 without ever attacking, and had to go grind up combat skills after that)

There is no need to level up your counter spell, it's a skill the player has in actually paying attention enough to what's going on to see the timer. Haveing a high spell identification helps as it will show the spell icon they are casting so you can decide weather to counterspell it or not. ex. there are some level 21 ghosts I like fighting since they are big panseys, except for the evil lightning bolt of doom. (not sure what spell it really is, but I only counterspell when I see the lightning bolt). selectively counterspelling changed a fight with them from usually dropping me to 20% or less hp's, to haveing 90% or more left over at the end of it. (it really is a lightning bolt of doom, takes almost half my hp's and they usually get it off twice durring a fight).

so yes you can spam it, no it doesn't help. If you do use it before they cast a spell, it won't do anything. it does NOT block their next spell. You do NOT get exp for it, and in generall, it leaves them about 12-15 seconds to rape you while you can't counterspell.

nice try though

It comes in handy when you have used your normal counterspell and they cast another spell straight after it.

ice_hole is right. This is not a bug, it's the way it works, you'll notice that if you counterspell without identifying and triggering the reaction counter the cooldown will be 20 seconds, if you reaction counter it it'll be 5-6 seconds.

No it doesn't because you'll still have that 5-6 second cooldown.

If you're a counterspelling class it's very likely you have a mez, use it. Specially for big 4 second heals which gives you more than enough time to mez.
