Despawn NPC Ferries : Vanguard Premium Discussions

Position your boat at the side of the ferry, both boats must be very close, and sail like that until you hit a chunkline, the other boat will despawn and all the passengers will be transported to your boat, the npc will take control of your boat until you cross the chunkline, but the ferry will not respawn.

That works the same with player controlled boats, but in that case you will not lose the control of your boat.
