Hello. This is the background info. I owned a WoW account for about 9 months or so and put a good 15 days play time into my main to get him to level 60 with good gear and faction. I decided that i didnt particularly want to spend another 15 days of play time per alt i want to make so i decided to mess around with some bots. Ive used bots befor with few other MMORPG's and havent had any problems at all. However i used a lvling bot and BWH for 2 days only with a lvl 1 alt i had created. After just 2 days of using these programs in areas where i was all alone and never afk this is what blizzard sent me last night:

* * * NOTICE OF ACCOUNT CLOSURE REVIEW * * *

Greetings EDITED,

Account Name: EDITED
Character Name: EDITED
Realm: Tichondrius

Offense: Violation of Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy -
Unapproved Third Party Software

Details: Character was found to be using a Third-Party application that allowed
him/her to instantly teleport to locations in the game. These movements are not
possible through the standard game-client.

The actions detailed above have been deemed inappropriate for World of Warcraft
by the Blizzard Entertainment In-game Support Staff. As a result, the World of
Warcraft account has been given a 72 hour account suspension and will not be
accessible for the duration thereof. This World of Warcraft account has also
been forwarded to our Account Administration team for review of current and
previous policy infractions to determine if further account actions, up to and
including account closure, are necessary. Our Account Administration team will
contact you with a decision once all information has been reviewed.

Thank you for respecting our position on this matter.

Addition to the above post.

Received this shortly after i got the first email:

***Notice of Account Closure***

Hello EDITED,

Access to the World of Warcraft account EDITED, and any World of Warcraft
account associated with the payment information you have provided, has been
permanently disabled. The account has been identified as having used
unauthorized game modifications and thus is in violation of the World of
Warcraft Terms of Use.

Please review the World of Warcraft Terms of Use at
<http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html>, which you accepted when
you installed World of Warcraft and established the account(s). Section 2,
Paragraph C details the limitations of game play modifications and use of any
third-party or "packet sniffing" software. In addition, Section 3, Paragraph C,
parts iii and iv restrict the use of any hack, scripting or macroing software
which obtains information from World of Warcraft to gain a competitive advantage
over other players.

Furthermore, any activities not intended by game design which affect the
economy, the client, player characters or the world itself have a tremendous
negative impact on the potential enjoyment for all players. The effects of these
activities take many forms including a bloated game economy, server instability,
and allowing unauthorized access to accounts, computers, and player data.

As a result, the account(s) will no longer be accessible and will unfortunately
not be reopened under any circumstances.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and respecting our position and
all statutes within the World of Warcraft Terms of Use.

Razio

so my question is, do you find this a little overboard? I used a hack for 2 days to lvl a lvl 1 character half as fast as i could do myself and had all accounts permanently banned because of it? I would think of 3 day suspension is enough for something so minor. I could see how this would be good to counter the chinese farmers who have 30 computers all running gold farming bots but this isnt like that. What do all of you feel about this event and blizzards actions in general?

I think overboard would have been if they came to your house and kicked your dog and slapped your wife around.

You cheated and they caught you. Trust me, you would have been using that telport hack all the time when you got to know the power of it. They just caught you before you had the time to really exploit the game.

No I dont think it's harsh they clearly state it in the rules, besides most people build two or three chars at the same time and benifit from the rested bonus which helps you level faster......so they help you build a few chars at the same time no need to cheat.

All I can say is this: remember when Blizzard wasn't so harsh on the Diablo II LOD realms? Remember how it felt when all of a sudden some hacking party member used an exploit to a) steal all your gear (including your epic uniques) or b) freeze your character or c) cracked his ability tree to make him Bolt you for 17.000. It sucked, and really hard. It's a game, and one that shouldn't allow cheating. You wouldn't like/approve it that someone in real life used a cheat that make him get away with driving 200 mph in a suburbian area, would you? It's the same deal. You should respect your fellow player, and that means agreeing to each having the same chances.

MMORPG, with an emphasis on the RPG part. Either play it like it is, or go practice headshots in Counterstrike with the other kids.

Yes, and no.. while I'm tempted to use a bot.. and I no doubt will.. whenever I get the chance to do so, but the teleporting thing.. eh.. As soon as I get my second Computer, if I have plans to 2 box, I'll just get my Hunter, have him aspect of the pack and follow.. a 30% speed buff to a -40 lvl character with no trouble.
You did break the rules, and got rightfully screwed for it.
But what they did was extreme, some people are asses and over do it, but I don't believe you did.. Banning That account would have been sufficient punishment, disallowing your entire ability to play the game.. well that's just overkill.
Sorry dude.. :-/
