The Definitive and Complete Guide to Refining Weapons in 9 Dragons

After refining hundreds, if not thousands, of weapons in 9 Dragons, I, Kuan_Ti_888, have attained the reputation of being the best refiner in Nirvana, making the impossible a reality. I decided to write this guide for the rest of the server in the hopes that it will help other players, keep my chat window inactive so I can grind, and demystify the entire process of refining weapons for which I am known, respected by some, and hated by others...^ ^ So here is what I know, what works, how you should go about doing it, and so on...GG GD GL to all...^ ^

1) Refining is NOT pure luck. It is the result of knowledge, timing, and execution according to the rules of refining.

2) Refining WD weapons IS NOT the same as refining normal weapons. They require more steps, as they are a totally different type of weapon.

3) Elixers and buffs DO help you chances to refine. We will go into detail further later to explain how it does.

4) Server state IS IMPORTANT to the outcome of a refine attempt

5) Blood Essence comes in 3 varieties, with 3 sub-varieties: 1) the Blood Essence you buy from a stand or a player 2) the Blood Essence you get from drops, and 2A, the Blood Essence you get from bosses 3) the Blood Essence you get from completing Blood Count, and 3A, the Blood Essence you get from quests, and 3B, the Blood Essence you get from completing Wan Dye's fan collection. Each type of BE can be graded, Type 1 is the WORST...so grade C, Type 2 is better...so grade B...Type 3 is the BEST, but much harder to get, so grade A1+++for Blood Count BE, and grade A1++for fan BE from Wan Dye...

6) Level DOES have to do with refine...not only yours, but lvl of the weapon you are trying to refine. We will explain this further in detail later.

7) Your CLASS DOES AFFECT what you can and cannot refine successfully.

Failing certain refines is GOOD...we will explain this later as well.

9) Weapon durability does affect weapons and refining. We will explain this later too.

10) Slotted weapons are harder to refine, and filled slot weapons can be refined. We will explain this later.

Now, since we have a framework of rules, let's get to it. You decided to refine a weapon. Great. What exactly are you doing? You ARE GAMBLING...let us not fool ourselves into thinking otherwise. This guide is by no means perfect, and with the new concepts of dragon scales, dragon tears, and +10, +11, +12 refinements, certainly they will affect the outcome of refining in ways I do not understand as of yet, but rest assured, I will soon enough.

Refining is NOT SIMPLE...everyone thinks all you need is BE, some gold, and a weapon...If that were true, we would all have +9s or higher, and why would you be wasting time reading this guide in the FIRST place? If you want a guaranteed + weapon, buy it. It is a surefire thing, with 100% chance of success. The ONLY reason I, Kuan_Ti_888, got into refining in the FIRST place, is the weapons I wanted, nobody HAD, so I had to learn how to refine so I could make them myself.

BUFFS- Let's start with the basics and take it from there. In order to refine a weapon successfully, you are going to need help from other people. Just like you need help for epithets, so it is the same for refining. That may come as a shock for others, but the truth is, you NEED a healer friend and a hybrid friend to refine successfully. After all, buffs HELP improve your odds. Unless stated otherwise, you should get buffs from your friends just before you attempt to refine.

LOGGING OUT-So, you just got max buffs from your healer and hybrid friends...what to do now? Refine? Nope, not even CLOSE. LOG OUT. The Kuan_Ti_888 method requires you get your material after you get your buffs, log out, log back in, and RUN to the refiner and get into the refine submenu before your invulnerability runs out. How many times can you refine a weapon after you do this? ONCE. After a success, log out again and repeat the steps with getting new buffs, etc.

SERVER STATE- Server state is important to refining weapons. Pleasant is better than fine is better than normal. GREEN MEANS GO REFINE!!! My personal experience is refining IS better between the hours of 11PM-7AM SERVER TIME and, during B&W War.

WEAPON +- Weapons that are +7 or greater DO need downtime before going to the next refine level. The only exception is gloves, they need to rest after +6...Typically, a rest time of 24-36 hours is needed for each + after +7 and the weapon needs to put on serious dura. My favorite tactic is to put it on a noob and grind it to less than 10% dura.

WEAPON DURABILITY- It is TRUE that damaged weapons have a reduced %age for refine success.Prior to patch 52, there was a refining bug that a 10% left weapon durability always allowed for success; that is no longer true. Always repair your weapons before you go out and refine them.

SLOTTED WEAPONS- Slotted weapons ARE harder to refine than normal weapons, however, by abiding by the guidelines, they can be refined just as easily as any other weapon. If the slots are filled, the weapon can still be refined, it just has to rest longer and be subject to WD
guidelines.

WAN DYE WEAPONS- Everybody wants them, not everyone can refine them, and they cost a FORTUNE. So what to do with your WD weapons AFTER you +2 them? Simple. Switch them to a noob, tack on mad dura, switch them to your refining char, go repair them, and then...the #1 secret about WD? They LOVE to be offered as contributions at clan base. Just bring them to clan base, offer them as contribution, and cancel.
Then go back to Hefei, get your buffs, log out, and login and refine.

REFINING CHARACTER LEVEL/WEAPON LVL AND WHAT IT ALL MEANS...- After much trial, error, failure, and success, I have come up with the following which explains what a character can refine with greater odds of success than failure. It is as follows:

LS-can refine most RC-GL, most HM, some LM
GC-can refine most OC-GL, some HM, few LM
OC-can refine most GC, some OC, most RC-GL, few HM, fewer LM
RC- can refine most LS, GC, most OC, some RC, few RL, some FD, most GB, EC, all FC, some GL, few HM, fewer LM
RL- can refine most GC, OC weapons, some RC, few RL, few FD, most FD-GB, few EC, some FC, few GL, fewer HM
FD-can refine most OC-RL, some FD, most SM, few GB, some EC, most FC, some GL, most HM, some LM
SM-can refine most RL-FD, some SM, all GB, most EC-GL, few HM, some LM
GB-can refine most RL,FD,all SM, some GB, most EC, all FC, all GL, few HM, some LM
EC-can refine most FD, SM, all GB, some EC, all FC, all GL, few HM, some LM
FC-can refine most LS-GB, all EC, some FC, all GL, most HM, fewer LM
CS-can refine most LS-GB, all FC, most GL, some HM, fewer LM
GL-can refine most LS-FC, some GL, most HM, few LM
HM-can refine most LS-FC, all GL, few HM
LM- can refine most LS-GL, some HM, few LM
Hermit- can refine most LS-HM, some LM, no Hermit weapons to refine at this moment...
PS- can refine most LS-LM, will be able to refine some Hermit, and very few PS weapons, which do not exist at this time...
All successive levels beyond PS will follow the same guidelines as above.

Basically, a character can refine in a range of levels below it and above it with ease, but it's much harder to refine weapons around your own level. It also appears there is a direct correlation between your karma trading levels and the level of weapons you intend to refine...i.e. +24 to -24 levels of your character level is your comfort zone of refining.

CHARACTER CLASS AND INTENDED TARGET WEAPON REFINES- warrior, use noob, nuker, healer
nuker, use warrior, hybrid, healer
healer, use warrior, hybrid, nuker
hybrid, use warrior, healer, noob

Example: Warrior wants a saber refined...use noob until +7,8, switch to nuker or healer within guidelines above...

Additional modifiers of chance: chakra purge to reverse stats, refine weapon, purge back...may seem superfluous at first, but end results are what matter, and what speak loudest...In addition to this, try modifying your stats with relics you wouldn't normally use, to emulate greater similarity to builds of other roles...example: nuker using str, dex, relics to emulate warrior build...

Well, that's it...Hope it helps you all out in refining and dazzle my eyes with some new weapons I haven't seen before...^ ^

lol so you say that the game was just made out of nowhere? ofcourse its not luck obiously all game makers program some sort of mystery and odds to their gameand the guy who wrote this is known as the best refiner in teh nirvana server

I know this guy. And, yes, for the game, it's not luck, for you it is. Just like in a casino, where cards are mixed and dealt by a machine - the machine works according to a logarythm, but for you it's pretty much nothing but luck what you get. Now, when you make tons of weapons, which he did, you are bound to get some nice refines...

idk what i can say ;P with buffs i get refine +6 on gloves, but last time i crash it on +4 (one time with buffs, next - without) O.o then idk seriously. w8 for others ;]
