A Tour of Kings Row

Welcome to our tour of Kings Row!

We hope that both new and experienced Heroes will find this tour interesting and useful. Kings Row is mainly an industrial area – not many statues, but lots of folks carrying lumber – with a wonderful assortment of villain groups that makes it popular for lower-level hunting and "Defeat n villains"-type missions. There are also five exploration badges, five plaques necessary for two other badges, and a nice photo op with well-known Hero, Blue Steel.

WARNING: There are level 5-10 villains in our fair city, including Circle of Thorns, Clockworks, Hellions, Lost, Skulls, Trolls, and Vahziloks. Keep your spines and boots on the main roads whenever possible.

Maps and Your Location
Before we begin the tour, we'd like to mention maps and your location.
You can access your in-game Map by either pressing the "M" key, or by clicking "Map" in the Nav window. On the Map, your Hero appears as a green arrow, pointing in the direction you're facing (your green arrow may have a white dot to distinguish it from other green arrows). We also recommend that you look at the more detailed map of Kings Row that is available at http://www.vidiotmaps.com/coh/index.php ... =kings_row
Did you know that every Hero has the ability to find his or her location in map coordinates? You might find it useful to define a key (such as "L", if you don't use that key for something else already) as your location key. To do this, click "Menu", then "Options". Click "Controls". Scroll down the list to "Other". Click "Get Position". Press "L". Click "Apply Changes".
Now, whenever you press your "L" key, your current location will appear in the Chat window. Try it! The first number is your West-East location (left-right on the map): large or positive numbers are further West (left on map); small or negative numbers are further East (right on map). The second number is your altitude or elevation: small or negative numbers are lower; large or positive numbers are higher. The third number is your South-North location (bottom-top on the map): large or positive numbers are further South (bottom of map); small or negative numbers are further North (top of map). Try moving around and pressing L to see how the numbers change. Jump straight up, and hit L at the top of your jump. How high can you leap?

Starting the Tour
Now that we have our maps folded and location straight, let's begin the tour. We'll start at the Yellow Line Monorail station, which you can easily travel to from Galaxy City, Atlas Park, and other starting-points.

1. Monorail: Yellow Line Station (-1595, -42, 575)
The Monorail station for Kings Row (a blue T symbol on your map) is located pretty near the middle of the zone, convenient to anyplace you need to go. Also known as the train or tram, the Yellow Line can take you to Galaxy City, Atlas Park, Steel Canyon, or Skyway City.

2. Badge: Keen Sighted (-2176, 97, 1143)
Not far southeast of here, in the Aqueduct district, is your first badge, if you can get to it, up on that power pylon platform. Notice the middle number in the location for this badge: 97 yards above the ground. You can only reach there on your own if you have one of the special travel powers, like Hover, Fly, Super Jump, or Teleport. Otherwise, ask a passing Hero for help. Since many Heroes don't have travel powers when they first come to Kings Row, you might want to make a mental note to acquire this badge at a later time. This particular badge commemorates the first sighting of Manticore, one of the Surviving Eight Heroes, after a months-long disappearance.

3. Badge: Smokey (-3042, -42, -1358)
From the last badge, head to the northeast corner of the zone, in the Royal Refinery district. You can go north on the main road until it dead-ends, then turn east towards the three smokestacks. Yes, it seems that this badge is well named, considering all the smoke in the air in this area. Actually, the badge commemorates the smokestacks of the King Garment Works, from which Kings Row gets its name. At least it's easier to get to Smokey than the Keen Sighted badge: it's right on the ground near the middle smokestack.

4. Plaque: Axis Attack 3 (-170, -42, -1467)
Due west from the Smokey badge, in the High Park district, is the 3rd plaque about the Axis Attack. If you're on the street that passes beneath the underpass, go down the alley that's between the underpass and the building: the plaque is mounted on the building's outer wall. If you view all 5 of the Axis Attack plaques, you'll earn the Pupil badge (http://www.rjcyberware.com/CoH/BadgesAll.phtml). The rest of the Axis Attack plaques are in Galaxy City, Kings Row, and Perez Park. (We aren't going there on this tour, but if you proceed directly north from here, you'll find an entrance to Galaxy City.)

5. Plaque: Psychic Feedback Loop 5 (-57, -42, -1082)
Head south, past the raised road, and slightly west, into The Gish district. The 5th Psychic Feedback Loop plaque is located here. Look for a brick building with a cement wall around it. The plaque is outside the building, in the corner of the wall.. If you view all 6 of the Psychic Feedback Loop plaques, you'll earn the Intellectual badge (http://www.rjcyberware.com/CoH/BadgesAll.phtml). The rest of the Psychic Feedback Loop plaques are in Galaxy City, Kings Row, and Perez Park. (We aren't going there, but to the southwest is an entrance to Independence Port.)

6. Badge: Mystic King (-376, 70, 245)
From the last plaque, aim south and slightly east. This badge is up on the roof of a building with five brick columns in front and with a fire escape on the side. You can get to the roof even without any fancy-schmancy travel powers. The badge location itself marks the crossing point of Ley Lines, mystical arcs of energy.

7. Badge: Upgraded (-496, 102, 768)
Another badge, and one of my favorites to get to. Keep going south until you reach this building at the edge of The Gish district. Proceed to the roof, using the fire escape on the back. The badge is on a helipad, where Tony Kord parks his private helicopter: if that isn't "upgraded", I don't know what is. There are often Circle of Thorns on this and nearby roofs. You may have to battle them to claim your prize.

8. Plaque: Psychic Feedback Loop 3 (628, -42, 970)
Go west, young Hero, go west. To the far corner of The Gish. You're looking for a yellow crane. From the crane, head north to the junkyard, hop the fence, and there's the 3rd Psychic Feedback Loop plaque on a pedestal. (We won't be going there, but to the northwest is an entrance to Independence Port.)

9. Blue Steel (-768, 36, 1328)
Head east, and slightly north to get around that big wall, then southeast to Freedom Plaza, where Blue Steel is the local superhero trainer (his map symbol is a green person). You'll find him standing in front of a large medallion outside police headquarters. Many Heroes pose with Blue Steel here and capture the moment with a screen shot. Cheese! (To face the right way, try right-clicking on Blue Steel, selecting Follow, and using Q and E to turn yourself around.) Here's a sample: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/e ... eelnMe.jpg

As with all superhero trainers, Blue Steel is always on duty. When you level up, you can visit him to train to your new level, and get a new power or new slots. All you have to do is stand close to him and click on him, and that will start a conversation. Unfortunately, there are no Superpowered Field Trainers in Kings Row to buy and sell enhancements. You'll have to rely on your origin contacts here, or wait until you get to another zone.

10. Hero Corps Field Analyst (-602, 32, 1457)
A stone's throw southwest of Blue Steel is the lone Hero Corps Field Analyst (complete with cowgirl hat) in Kings Row, whose job is to help you pardners change your reputation. Reputations range from Heroic (the default), to Tenacious, Rugged, Unyielding, or Invincible. It's important to understand that this isn't simply a label: your reputation directly affects the difficulty of the missions you are offered. For example, Heroic reputations get standard difficulty missions. The difficulty increases up to Invincible, which means more powerful villains, and lots of them. If you find yourself bringing pillows to your missions, or as many Awakens as you can carry, try changing your reputation.

11. Plaque: Axis Attack 4 (-400, 4, 1760)
Not far southwest of the Hero Corps Field Analyst is the 4th plaque about the Axis Attack. It's on the usual pedestal. If you view all 5 of the Axis Attack plaques, you'll earn the Pupil badge (http://www.rjcyberware.com/CoH/BadgesAll.phtml). The rest of the Axis Attack plaques are in Galaxy City, Kings Row, and Perez Park.

12. Hospital: Crowne Memorial (-242, 5, 2240)
To the south of the last plaque is the Crowne Memorial hospital (a green cross symbol on your map). You usually don't have to find your way here, as you'll arrive automatically if you decide to when you're defeated and unconscious in Kings Row. We just thought you'd like to visit here under your own power for once.

13. Badge: Summoned (-940, -42, 2978)
Turn southeast into the Industrial Ave. district, and continue almost to the southern wall. This badge – in a fenced lot next to a corner building – marks the spot where Statesman broke up a dangerous Circle of Thorns ritual.

14. Plaque: Psychic Feedback Loop 4 (-1368, -37, 688)
Aim northeast, just to the west of the Yellow Line station. (We won't be going there on this tour, but to the east, down the main road, is an entrance to Skyway City.) You'll pass through Freedom Plaza and back into The Gish. Look around for a sewer entrance, often surrounded by citizens behaving strangely. There you will find the 4th Psychic Feedback Loop plaque. To the southwest is an entrance to Independence Port.

Just across the street is the Yellow Line station, which is the endpoint of our tour.

End of the Tour
This concludes our tour of Kings Row. We hope that you have enjoyed your time exploring this area. From the Yellow Line station, you can take the Monorail to Galaxy City, Atlas Park, Steel Canyon, or Skyway City. In the far north wall, there's an entrance to Galaxy City. Almost due west of here is an entrance to Independence Port. And to the southeast is an entrance to Skyway City.
