I was curious as I was looking at how capital ships manually perform jumps to change solar systems on their own and there was a question that came to mind: Are the connecting systems of a region broken up into small 'zones' of sorts that the jump gates simply teleport you into or is it seamless as they advertise it to be with systems being many lightyears away?

The jump from wherever the ship is, to the cynofield (requires another player acting as cyno pilot) is seamless and is indeed a lightyear jump. No jump gates are involved. The actual distance is determined by jump drive calibration level. I'm being told the sight of a cap ship in transition is the coolest sight in Eve! and expensive!

Not sure if this is the answer you looking for but this was my interpretation...

Do you play Eve?

A dreadnought coming through a cyno field is the coolest thing you will ever see. This first time you see one, you will likely get podded as you won't realize anything else going on around you.... it's quite a sight.

Interesting info, but I was looking for the techicals about how the systems are connected. Like when the capital ship jumps into another system, does it actually move through space toward the system or does it teleport you to the system like stargates seem to do.

never traveled using a cyno but ive seen a bunch of them fields and ships jump through them. not that unusual in deep 0.0. anyway IMO i think that you are teleported rather than traveled through space

confirmed, you are teleported. This is due to the technical implementation that the game has to load the new system.

Check this link out:
Jump Drive Planner Tool

Jump drive works "as the crow flies" - a straight line from system 1 to system 2 the above tool will calculate, based on the ship, your skills and the distance the # of lightyears and the fuel required. Cap ships can only jump from and to low sec and 0.0

This is an outdated but informative faq, not written by me:
Carriers FAQ
It may answer other general cap ship questions.
