This has been touched on a couple of times with no real clear explanation....
till now. I stole the following straight from a Eve-Online general topic. Much higher chance of this in 0.0 space rather than empire.
Buck
1. Warp to any belt. Go in at 100km to buy you at least a few moments from the NPCs.
2. Do a scan at 360 degrees at, say, 2000km range (make sure your high-ends are enabled in your overview if you are scanning using overview settings). If you pick up any asteroids that don't show a specific distance on your scans, then they are off-grid and you have a hidden belt nearby. If not, go back to Step 1.
3. Reduce the angle of your scan to, say, 90 degrees and run repeated short range scans at this reduced angle, turning your camera view each time, until you see most of your mystery asteroids reappear on your scan results.
4. MWD in the direction of your camera view. Eventually you will cross into a new grid, and with any luck, the roids you were scanning should appear. Bookmark at your convenience.
There's a bit more to it than that ofc, but that's the basic process I follow anyway.

Oh so this is an xtrodinary exploit making you spend a little more time finding hidden stroids that you have loads of anyway? - whats the deal here - is it smart or is it a nicely planned waste of time?

Hidden belts allow you to mine unharrassed with a full field of well developed roids instead of regular belts that re strip mined and full of cans and pirates.
Worth the time? not to me, but some players enjoy exploring.

I will personally eve-mail you location of one hidden belt, in Empire.
Eve-mail me in-game " LittleFister " for details.
I will give one free to any that ask to prove I know what I am talking about. If you want more, I will sell them discretely for one million ISK each, just contact me in-game!
LittleFister
p.s. for advanced service, state which Empire you prefer (Galents, Caldari, Amarr or Minmattar) and pre-transfer one million (max five to a customer please, if you send me more than five million I will keep the rest as a "tip" but you will only get a total of five system names!)
Lastly, I will not be responsible for your loss of ISK arising from transferring to the wrong character or any other problem caused by you, so be sure and type my name carefully! " LittleFister "
