When in-game with your main character, launch second game instance ( exe ) and log on your account and enter the game with an alt. Your main char ( with his ship ) will instantly log off / dissapear.
Good thing for avoiding gate camps.

And this is easier than CTRL Q how?
The tip does as he says, but is by game design
Just as CTRL Q quits the game trying to log on 2 characters from the same account logs off the xisting character.

The difference appears to be the resetting of the aggression timer.
by using alt Q your ship breaks into warp and goes approximately 1au from the previous location in a random direction.
When it does this the aggression timer begins and your ship and pod remain in space for 15 minutes after you have already gone to the fridge to make a sandwich. A good prober can then search out your ship and destroy it, so that when you decide to log back on you find yourself in the station....
For some reason, by logging on the account with an alt, the ship completely disappears and cannot be probed out at all.

Concur with above post, you can still be probbed (or otherwise found) for a brief time with Ctrl-Q, but if you log on with an alt, the first character vanishes completely. Potentially useful if you got some vengful (or paid) bugger on your tail.
YAY.
