Guards see through invis. At one point the Guise of the Deciver heritage quest allowed you to get in, but it no longer does. So the short version is no- theres no easy way to get around- you just have to avoid the guards. Bear in mind that the thieves way connects all the city zones as well as the suburbs, and can be entered from the commonlands by way of the serpent sewers, as well as the ruins (or is it the sprawl.../shrug). If your trying to get into the city proper, using the underground network is really your only option- the main doors are too heavily guarded on both sides to get very far.
Invis will allow you to interact with mechants, bankers, etc- but you can no longer hail when invis, so questing is difficult if not impossible.

Yes I have, and the answer is no. There is no illusion that will fool the guards.

A tip of getting in to Freeport is to use the sewers. Often the entrances are away from guards. You can use an alt to scout out the walking guards and wich route you should use

tecnique I picked up in game from some random guy- I was in town, he was evil and needed to talk to an NPC for some quest, he asked me to spam-hail the guard between him and the NPC- and it worked! I had to keep the guard and litteraly hammer the H key- if I paused for even a second, he would start turning around and running for the other player- but as long as I kept him talking to me, the evil guy was fine. Eventualy he finished, sent me a tell, I just stopped hailing and he got instaported out to Antonica. So theres you answer...

There are several ways to get into either city of alternate alignment..
1) Is the Bell you can take it to several of the outlying cities that are guard free. Use these zones to get into the sewers or connect to other zones behind where guards are stationed.
2) specifically for good trying to get into fp i reccommend taking the bell to big bend which only has 1 lazy !@#$%^&* guard meandering around. You can time his route and just run up to the court yard and zone into the sewers. The hail method does work great if you have a friend of oposite alignment free to help you out. Or you can use someone of same alignment if they can feign death. That person grabs agro and feigns.. the guard will stay stuck on him until he gets up. But won't boot him untill he gets up.
Happy Hunting
