EverQuest II: The Fallen Dynasty

Throwing a bone to your most devoted players is one of the best ways to keep an MMORPG fresh and the people who love it to keep playing. EverQuest II does a good job of this with its Adventure Packs; The Fallen Dynasty is the third of these, and it continues the add-on’s premise of low-cost, substantive additions for the most dedicated of the community.

The Fallen Dynasty goes one further, though, by taking place in Asian-themed adventure zones. The new weapons, tradeskill rewards, and quests also share this Eastern styling, which should add even more flavor to the versatile EverQuest universe. Veteran players will get to explore seven new areas, visit a new village, explore a new dungeon – there’s even talk of a forsaken city. We do mean veterans, though – only level 55 to 70 need apply – but if you’re one who has been drinking from the well of EverQuest for a while now, this looks like a fascinating new entry for you.

It’s not all about the upper levels, though – Echoes of Faydwer is the next full-fledged expansion pack for EverQuest II and for a change, it features new content for all players regardless of level. There’re twenty new zones, forty new creatures, 350 quests, and a new playable race, the Fae. There’re new options for housing, new items to collect, more skills to learn – everything a good expansion pack needs to survive in this workaday world, but now it’s for everyone to enjoy right off the bat. It’s a nice way to entice new players, and with new places like castles rife with vampires and neat arboreal cities, there’s plenty for more these players to see.

These are across the board additions though, which means new tweaking – the Achievement system now has sub-class abilities for additional customization, and levels for Guilds have been raised to 60. It should give EQII fans more reasons to never do anything else, ever, and those who are still curious yet another enticement to play.
