Kudos to the Admin for trying to stay up with all the EQ2 news, but there is another way. They recently changed the look and format of the boards -- of course those of you using the boards know this already. But there has also been a little bit of nice thing that they added...RSS feeds!!! For those you who don't know what RSS is check the Wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(protocol)
That will give you some information on what it is. But what's the benefit? It's constant upto date information without having to go look on the site your self. There tons of clients that will pull the feed to your desktop and you can then browse at your leisure. Here's another Wiki page listing many of the popular clients.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_aggregator
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_news_aggregators
You can get RSS feeds for partiuclar forum or a particular thread. Here's what to do:
Forum Level:
1) Go to a forum, say EverQuest II : The Development Corner : Live Update Notes
2) Click on the "Board Options" menu.
3) Select "Subscribe to this board's RSS Feed"
4) This will take you to another page with whole bunch XML tags on it -- You can ignore all of that. What you want is the URL
(!empty($user->lang['QUOTE'])) ? $user->lang['QUOTE'] : ucwords(strtolower(str_replace('_', ' ', 'QUOTE'))):
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/rss/board?board.id=stat
That URL is what you would use in one the RSS clients to retrieve information for that forum.
You would repeat the similar steps for any thread that you want to follow as well.
Here are some other feeds that would be of interest also.
