I'm just a bit curious, and maybe its a dumb post, but what does it take to get booted for botting? Can SOE detect if you use XUnleashed or if you are botting?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I just dont want to run into this problem and i only recently fiddled around with bots but I am skeptical about using them becuase I dont want to lose my account or toon whichever SOE gets rid of if you get caught for such actions.

Thanks for anyone who has any answers! :D

From what I understand SOE can't directly detect a macro/bot running on your PC. What they can observe is odd behaviour or unrealistic profit making and thats only if they choose to look for people doing it.

The rule is simple if they think you are using a bot they can and most likely will ban you and that's the resaon most users use a second account that they can afford to lose.

Its not that easy for them to detect a bot but what they would normally do is send you a tell if they are suspicious and if you don't reply it's goodbye! If you do reply make sure you have some convincing arguements for whatever it is they are observing.

SOE stated that they do not scan your HD so it is unlikely for them to detect it without someone telling on you. So just keep to yourself about it and dont be obvious. Stay by your comp while botting (maybe watch a movie on it or something) and set up something to ding when you get a tell. It is still possible for them to ban, also depends on if the GM is an !@#$%^&* or not.

Unlike WoW's warden, SOE not only does not scan your hard drive but they do not scan processes in memory. So it is not an issue of them detecting the software you are running.

The most common way a player gets caught is by !@#$%^&* other players off while botting. For instance, you bot for XP and keep pulling mobs from a group that is in the area. Or you are using a bot to run multiple characters and farm names that other players are also trying to camp. Or you are tradeskilling and driving the prices in the market down because your an idiot and try to undercut everyone because it is so easy for you to make stuff.

The basic point is, If you are botting or hacking, pretty much any player with half a brain can tell. And if you piss them off they are likely to petition. SOE doesn't spend a lot of time on catching people unless they start getting a bunch of petitions or see it as a large threat to the games economy or upsets a lot of people.

So be courteous to other players, don't bot AFK, and don't use things like speed hacks (which ARE monitored server side - and yes I know people use them without getting busted a lot of times) and you should be fine.

exactly how are speed hacks monitored server side? Right now the longer my uptime, the faster i will run in EQ2 unless i disable one of the cores on my dual core, is this anything that they can monitor?

short version: yes they could, but I wouldn't worry too much about it atm, unless your playing on PvP.

I wouldn't even worry about it on the pvp servers, Theres been a couple guys using speed hacks on one of them for a few weeks now with plenty of people petitioning them and they are still around. =)

bots arnt 100% safe, but the chances of someone reporting you are low unless you stand in the same place 24/7. The chances of SoE doing something are a lot lower.
