Welcome to Freeport Quest
After you decide to leave the lovely Island of Refuge for the Evil city of Freeport, you are presented with a variety of tasks which you first must accomplish to become recognized as a citizen by the Overlord of Freeport. When you first hit the docks of Freeport you may be shocked at how dark and dingy the place is.........but after all it is EVVVVIIIIL as the good Doctor would say.
First thing you need to do is talk to your local Overseer on the docks. Not everyone is assigned the same initial neighborhood, so the name of the Overseer will vary from city to city, but the general tasks you must complete will remain the same. After speaking to the Overseer, he'll direct you to take possession of your new "home" at the local Inn. Hit the "M" key and disable the fog on the map and locate the Inn. Navigate your way through the crowded, slimy streets of Freeport and click on the Inn's main door. There is an innkeeper outside, but just ignore him.....he does little more at this point than peddle furniture for your home.
Once you've "purchased" your home, go inside and speak to the rude bald fellow, Slumlord Valthun. He will serve as your welcoming committee, if he could be called that. This fellow is undoubtedly the most rude person you've met thus far in the realms of EQ2, but you better get used to it. The bald fellow will ask you to head to the local banker to open your account and let the bad folk of Freeport know you're in town. The banker will also ask you what you wish to be in this realm, an Artisan or an Adventurer. If you want to craft, you're an Artisan.......if you want to be out in the wilds destroying notorious beasts and bringing glory through battle to the realm of Freeport.....you're an adventurer at heart.
After speaking to the banker (make sure to press "H" to initiate the conversation, double clicking will just initiate the standard banking interface), head back to the Inn and speak with the bald fellow. He'll be generally rude to you, but after all is said and done he'll give you a new mirror for your home. Throw that bad boy on the wall and speak to him again, this time around he'll instruct you to go down to the docks and locate the "Mariner's Bell". There are two bells on the docks, one take you to areas outside of freeport, such as the "Common Areas" where you can do battle with monsters. Once you clicked on both of the bells, head back to your room and speak to the Slumlord. At this point, the slumlord will give you a chandelier which you can place in your room to your liking.
At this point, your character is becoming quite perturbed and wishes to know how he/she can become a citizen of Freeport, after demanding some more information the Slumlord will direct you to the gates of the city, where a small sign is placed where you can retrieve an application for citizenship. Examine the application, and accept the tasks it gives you.
Next Quest: Gaining Citizenship
You knew becoming a citizen wouldn't be as simple as filling out an application didn't you? Well turns out there are some more hurdles to jump through to become a citizen. To properly prove your worth as a possible citizen, you must head down into the sewers and kill a number of beasts until you gain 5 "coins" with which you can then present to Slumlord Vathun, who will then direct you to Abbetor Tavi.
However, before getting to that point there is the matter of reaching the sewers and killing the beasts. Ensure you have the "Freeport Citizenship" task active and follow the directions to the sewers. Double click on the sewer grate or manhole cover to hop down into the slime and filth. Once knee deep in muck, tread lightly! There are a ton of aggro monsters down here, so don't stray too far from the initial ladder you came down. Target monsters close to the ladder, and blast or hack away until you have 5 coins. It may take killing 10-20 monsters to gain these 5 coins, but at this point in the game there is no reason to go any deeper into the sewers, you are only going to get killed repeatedly by mobs of "Diseased Ratongas".
Once you have the 5 coins, head back up out of the sewers and back to the Inn. Present the Slumlord with your 5 coins of Proof, and he will direct you with much disdain to speak to Abbetor Tavi. You can speak to Tavi by heading back to the same sign where you gained the application of citizenship. Double click on the sign and you are immediately transported to a new zone, where you have one final quest to complete before citizenship is granted, along with a new weapon and jewelry!
Take Out the Traitors!
You will arrive in a small cave apparently somewhere deep in the sewers, where Abbator Tavi will be waiting. She'll explain to convince her, and the Overlord of your worthiness of citizenship, you must kill some traitors and other treacherous individuals just around the corner.
Keep in mind all the enemies down here are humanoid creatures. The bats, rats etc cannot be attacked. Your goal here is to kill the humanoids. Many of them do not even appear to be enemies to you initially, you must first strike up a conversation with them and eventually declare you're there to do away with them on the orders of Tavi. As soon as this happens these guys will attack you without hesitation, so be prepared!
Take out each guy/gal/gnome/whatever one at a time, until you eventually reach the Fighter "Freeport Traitor" in the back of the sewer. After you sent him into the "next life", head back to Tavi for your rewards. She'll grant you a new ring, a higher class weapon and a declaration of citizenship. Congratulations new citizen of Freeport!
