 Gain 2 tradeskill levels without grinding : EverQuest 2 Premium Discussions

I haven't tried to do this in other places but I'd assume it works. I did this in Kelethin tradeskill area/trainer. I didn't check to see if this was posted but if not here ya go.
If you level you tradeskiller to barely into lvl 9 and talk to the tradeskill trainer to let him know what class you want to be you will then become level 10.
You can do the same thing at lvl 19, barely get enough exp to ding lvl 19 and talk to the trainer to tell him what class you want to be. You will then ding lvl 20.

I've noticed this behavior too. Hard to say if it's an actual exploit, but surely something useful in Guides.

Not an exploit it is by design and has been for some time. It was implemented by the devs due to people complaining you lost the extra xp over your level if you didn't pick a profession.
