After reading the EQ2 Forums, specifically the tradeskill section, I came across an intersting piece. There is alegations of a hack/program that can scan a node and detect what it will yeild before harvesting. It seems a bit paranoid, as I was always told/read that, that information was not relayed until the node/harvest was being interacted with.
Simply put, can a node be scanned before hand for rares?

my guess is no... and my other guess is that if the answer was yes... they wouldnt tell you because that would have the potential to RUIN the market

Yea, I think they seem pretty random, I doubt they can be scanned.

I think the the only thing that it could be is a random number generator. As truely random numbers are very hard to program. Several folks have been working out the algorythim SOE is using and that will be able to give a really good guestimate of when a rare will spawn.

SOE should have learned that lesson back in the EQ1 days, apparently at one early point you could see what a mob was going to drop using ShowEQ. This is back in the packet sniffing days.
Then they smartened up.. there is no reason for loot informationto be transfered to the client until you click to loot.
I strongly suspect that lesson was carried forward into EQ2 and applies to both loot and harvests.
That said, betting on SOE not learning from previous mistakes is never a bad bet...
