No, your wrong. Although there is a trend that can be noticed. I play a lot with a friend of mine and we've both come to notice that sometimes one of us will win the lotto 99 times out of 100. I mean like he'll win 10 times in a row before i get 1 win, then he'll keep on winning. And vice-versa.
So that there proves your character does not get a seed upon creation. Probably seeds get assigned upon the creation of the group, or activation of the lotto system.
Its definately possible that you can get 'lucky' and 'unlucky' seeds though. As i have been in full groups and got nothing, ever. But i've been in groups where i've won 20 times in a row, and been accused of hacking. Which is probably where the 'lotto hack' rumors have come from.
The lotto system is definately not client side, at all. That can be seen by viewing the packet flow while looting. Therefore there will not, ever, be a lotto hack. Ever.

well i have pulled a few thousand resources - literally - probably touching the 15k mark soon
i've pulled numerous glowing, glimmering, whatver items but only ever pulled 1 real "rare" a palladilum cluster
i got a buddy that pulls a rare outta his !@#$%^&* every other day when he sits down and grabs 100< resources
i think there might be some kind of "luck" factor but i doubt its in the code, and more i get !@#$%^&* rolls and other people make up for that some how lol

Nazeroth, My luck changed yesterday. I have had a character that has always been unlucky and all of a sudden I was winning almost every lottery. I was in three different groups and still the luck remained. I agree this is a server side thing but if you could edit the proper packet that affect the luck factor we may be on to something. Maybe it is based on the time the character time of login. This may go nowhere but I find in challenging to find out how luck works in the game.

I don't know how it works in eq2m but I work at a company that develops online casinos and I can tell you how it works there.
The player sends a request to the server asking for a number to see if he has won. There has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING on the client side.
If they have implemented it any differently in eq2 they are .... dumb

Well I dont know if this really works but seems to work for me. what I do is Examine the item or items, then as soon as I click accept, I jump. that always seems to work. I dont know if it does work, or Im just lucky. But I was playing over my friends house and he though I was hacking.

What I do is hold my breath IRL, jump up and down (not my character, me) run around my room, do the "lucky dance", Shout "I FEEL LUCKY", then click, this always works for me I win at least 1 out of 6 loots in a full group!

Naz, you have Blaz's tool, right? check out the fractal code in there- if that aint a RNG, Im a moron. Now why the client is loading a RNG is a mystery to me- uses the seed created by the windows built in crypto thing (dont know how it works- all I know is theres a generic key in the registry that holds a set of seeds- every time I access it (even by simply opening regedit and looking at the seed) it changes. But EQ2 only grabs that seed once, upon loading, and then never gets a new seed (known by watching regmon while running eq2).

Blaz's tool? No, i used Acid's first release of his packet dumper and decrypter. I haven't done any packet sniffing in ages now. I stopped because it started getting a little out of my leage. I mean, i've done some MMO packet cracking and hacking in my time but EQ2 had me going around in circles.
Yeah i remember coming across the same sort of thing. I couldn't find any info on the windows crypto system except for the syskey system used in winXP to encrypt local user login info (password).
I really doubted there'd be much to hack so i stopped, plus it was going into cryptography, and thats not really my area. Who knows, maybe it retrieves a seed from your computer and sends it to the server. From there the server uses some equation to deduce which player gets what, based on the seeds from each players computer. I doubt the windows crypto system has much to do with anything, just a good way to get a truely random number. The key in the reg probably changes because EQ2 is telling it to, for when the next time you form a group the number will be different.
If all my squabble was actually true that'd mean there just be no way to hack the lotto system. Though that doesn't explain the apparent pattern that you do sometimes win at a supernatural rate. Maybe the right number under certain circumstances comes out on top. *shrugs*

Blaz's tool is a vpk extractor. I'll post the contents of the file I'm refering to later today.

i have tested with friends...and verify that there is a much better chance (like 95%) of you winning something by clicking last. i did 10 items first where i just clicked accept with everyone else. won like 2-3. then the next 10, i clicked last, and i wont like 9 out of 10 items!! its kinda funny, now when im in a group of jerks, i mess with them. ill jump 3x, turn in a circle for 720 degrees, duck, wave, dance, then click loot and ill win. then i tell them the "secret" is to do everything i did..so now if you get someone in your group doing that, you know they are jerks and can laugh at them..lol. but i dont do use it in a group often unless they do something or say something mean first.

Could just be their random generating system sucks...
Certain was you write a random number generator in other forms of programming...Like visual basic...do not generate totally random numbers....If you write it the wrong way like I have seen several VB coders do...then some numbers just genrally come up more then others...
I am thinking that may be the problem in eq...
Or they just did it so sometimes you have a super lucky day lol...
Funny thing is I noticed it seems like female characters win every damn thing worth anything in groups I am in...You could have 1 or 2 female characters in a group and it seems like they win everything...
Then again they take 3/4 of everything in RL too...lol

Heh, you've lost me Discoduck. But ok, so it is a random number gen. The lotto still isn't client side.

true. My point was that IF the seed is being created clientside, that may be exploitable.
