Introduction
With the addition of Treasures of Aht Urhgan, two new mining locations were added, Halvung and Mount Zhayolm. These two places are not only incredibly easy to mine; they’re very profitable and conveniently placed, too.
Basic Mining Instruction
First off, it’s important to have a job that is able to cast Sneak, Invisible (or tonko). Any job subbing WHM or RDM that is above level 50 has access to the spells Sneak and Invisible. And a Ninja subbing WHM or RDM atlevel 40 has access to Sneak and Tonko. Although using Prism Powder and Silent Oil would work, it would reduce profits.
Next, buying field gear helps reduce the chance of breaking pick axes. I’ve yet to hear any conclusive data regarding a boosted effect while using the high quality version of the field gear, so I’ve stuck to the normal quality version. Also, I do not believe using the leg piece enhances mining at all, although some people say having the complete set of field gear does help. After you’ve purchased the field gear, it’s important to free up as much inventory space up as possible. With the addition of the Mog Locker, this isn’t usually a very difficult task. Finally, purchase as many pick axes as you see fit, I generally bring 4 or 5 stacks.
Location
To get to these new locations, you must first go to Al Zhabi first. You can go there by riding the ferry in Mhaura (be sure not to ride the ferry to Selbina on accident). Then, from Aht Urhgan White Gate, go to Al Zhabi. From here, exit from the northern gate to the Bhaflau Thickets.
Since a picture says a thousand words, use the map found here (
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show ... u-thickets) to navigate your way over to Halvung (F8). Along the way, avoid Wajaom Tigers and Trolls by casting invisible, and avoid Fomors and Date Erucas by casting sneak.
Halvung
Although Halvung is generally easy to mine, a few of the points are simply impossible. An online map of where mining points can be located is found at
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=halvung .
Near the entrance of the zone, you will find Purgatory and Volcanic bats. These are both aggressive to sound, so put up sneak. After progressing further, you will find some trolls and Magmatic Erucas. Trolls are aggressive to sight, and Magmatic Erucas are aggressive to sound (although when they have z’s floating from them between 21:00 and 6:00, they won’t agro). The trolls will be guarding some of the first points, so just be patient and they will move.
The mining point in (I-6) and (I-7) will be quite difficult to mine at. The following two mining points are simple, as long as you keep Sneak up. The mining points in (J-4) and (J-5) are nearly impossible to mine. Further down, you’ll see some bomb’s called Friar’s Lantern. Bombs are aggressive to magic (but not ninjutsu), so be careful while casting around them. If you decide to go even further, you’ll encounter some Wamouracampa. These are not aggressive.
What you’re looking for in Halvung is Orichalcum or Luminium ore. However, Troll Pauldrons, Troll Vambraces, Moblin Helms and Moblin Mail generally sell quickly and for a decent amount.
Mount Zhayolm
To get to Mount Zhayolm, you must first travel through Halvung (the exit is in (J-7)). You can also cast Escape upon entering Halvung to be instantly teleported to Mount Zhayolm.
Mount Zhayolm is very easy to mine. Nearly all points are out of monster’s agro range. An online map of where mining points can be located is found at
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show ... nt-zhayolm . However, you will need a Metal Cast Plate before being able to mine efficiently in Mount Zhayolm. Luckily, the Metal Cast Plate is located in Mount Zhayolm, and you only need to get it once. It’s potentially found on all the green dots of the map.
After finding the Metal Cast Plate, you can freely navigate the zone. Since it’s a rather large area, finding a mining route that you’re happy with is a good idea. The results you’re looking for here are Adaman ore, Khroma ore and Demon horns. Once again, Troll items and Brass Moblin items sell quickly and nicely. Beastmen items are fairly common, Demon horns are quite rare(around darksteel in gusgen), Adaman is rarer (think gold in gusgen) and Khroma is extrememly rare (Think Orichalcum in Ifrit's).
Magmatic Erucas still agro to sound, unless the time is between 18:00 and 6:00. Mountain Clots and Phasmas both agro to sound, too. All trolls and Ebony Puddings will agro to sight. Sweeping Clusters will agro to both Sight and Magic, so be careful while casting around them.
Conclusion and Tips
-Spamming Tab and 0 on the number key is an easy way to locate mining points
-It's best to locate a safe area to recast after recieving the first warning notice
- /item "Pickaxe" <stnpc> is a helpful macro
- Use the /sea command to see if there is any competition.
Well, that's my mining knowledge for these two places in a nut shell. Hope it helped ^^
