I just noticed this on the playonline website. It looks like SE are really pulling out the stops to get rid of botters.

Lets hope the proffesionals here can find a way to automate this somehow.

The fishing system is scheduled for some major improvements.
Here is an outline of the changes you can expect to see.

* New action-oriented system

-The rod will begin to shake wildly when something takes the bait.

-Countering the movement of the rod will reduce the stamina of your intended catch.

-A catch is best reeled in when its stamina is close to zero, so much more attention is required when compared to the current fishing system.

-In accordance with these changes, fishing skill will rise at twice the rate of the current system.

* Strengthening of lower-level fishing rods

-Lower-level rods such as the willow rod will become much more durable.

-Other new characteristics will determine the type of rod best suited for catching certain types of fish.

* Increased effects of fishing skill

-The method for comparing fishing skill and the level of the fish will be improved, making it easier for those with higher fishing skill to catch high-level fish.

* Other changes

-Everyone will gain a new "fishing instinct."

-The "instinct" of those with higher fishing skill will be more accurate.

Whenever they decide to implement this, it will take some time but it will be scriptable. All they are doing is adding more logic into how a fish is caught and all we scripters will have to do is add more logic into how we handle catching them. All they do is throw more code and all we will do is throw more code right back.

SE can try to stop scripters but scripters will always find a way to fight back.

Wyvern,

When/if this is implemented, I would really appreciate it if you would add the value of which way the fish is pulling the rod, and the value of it's stamina into FFXI service. I would think from their description those are the only two pieces of information from memory that will be needed.

this will lower the price of fish drastically. sucks for you bots.

unless you can create a script that senses visual movement of the fishing rod, you're going to have a hard time creating a fishing script with this update.

cs001x, will do.

Will give me a chance to update the service too to fix some of the radar problems people have posted. Like filtering dead mobs

elihu252, yea that information can be entered into the script service. Some of the scripts will need to be tweaked a little, but it shouldnt be a problem.

oh well, with or without bots, everybody is going to want to fish now.

the update will double fishing skill growth rate, that's a lot.

so regardless of if you got the knowledge to hack into the game and figure out what all of their motion calls are and make scripts for them, the price of fish will decrease significantly. my entire ls is going to start fishing now (manually).

Personally, I think that all these new fishers will run out and say "OMG, this is so cool, fishing is going to be so fun now!", then after a few hours/days of doing it they will get bored with it and they will all go back to their usual business.

As for the doubling of skillups, well, it's still going to be slow to level fishing. Post 50, you are lucky to get a level every 2 hours, so it will most likely become more like pre-50 fishing with consistent skillups.

Just my 2gil's worth.

This is my first post here, yay!!
Well anyways it seems to me like this patch will give the bots even more of an advantage over non-bot fishers. From what I gather this patch is saying that if you time your cast and/ or your reel in just right, fishing will be much more efficient. Now, once the scripters figure out the system they will inevitably make a bot (and they will figure it out, I have faith in the smart people on here). Now what do you think will be more efficient, a person pressing enter at about the right time or the computer doing it for you?

So the way it looks to me is once the hurdle of scripting for the new system is overcome the people with the real profits will be the botters, this might even drive some non-bot fishers to using bots just so they can keep up.

Good job SE, way to 'fix' the problem!

It all depends on how easy it is to find the relavent info in the game. If we can identify the location of the new information it won't be anymore difficult, and may even be beneficial.

do you really think se would have added this update without thinking that people will try to hack around it? of course not.

i think that they've thought this through well and hard, but if you want to believe that this will be very simple to work around, then be my guest.

regardless, come march, every current fishing bot script will basically suck.

I don't think that the work around will be simple by any means, I know that I for one would stand no chance of scripting for it. In the current system even someone with a limited programming background like me could some up with a basic script that fishes, waits, and sorts inventroy. I think that SE's plan will be to make this more difficult, and also to stop the less advanced bots such as the one many people find on RPGExperts.

That said I see the good work that the people on these boards have done with so many differant bots and it seems more like its not a matter of if they will figure out the new system but when. I see how active the scripters here are and they really seem to care about the scripts that they've written.

So I agree that come March all of the current bots are going to suck, I think that is more of SE's point behind the patch rather than to eliminate botting all together. I guess time will tell to see how difficult the new patch proves to be, I'm not taking any chances and I'm getting my fishing skill as high as possible now, without a bot that sure would be a pain ^_^

I'll be a happy camper as long as there will be a new updated version of cs001x's newbie fishing script for the new fishing system.

I'm a proud noob, fan, and user of the newbie script even before there was the great FFXI service by WyvernX and the next version that had the FFXI service in it.

omg noooooo, please dont filter out dead mobs from the radar. It is honestly the most useful feature of the radar. It saves so much time when NM hunting, lets you know if 24 hour mobs have been killed just by seeing where they died. Change in their color or something would be awesome, but please dont take them out!
