Acquiring the Ballista License

Prerequesites

Ok, let me first say, you MUST be atleast rank 3 in Home Nation.

Locations You Will Need

Bastok Conflict Director - Invincible Shield - Metalworks - G-8 1b.
Bastokan Palace - Metalworks - J-8

San d'Oria Conflict Director - Excenmille - North Sandoria - D-9 2b. San d'Orian Palace - Chateau d'Oraguille - I-9

Windurst Conflict Director - Mhabi Molkot - Heavens Tower - Clerical Chamber

Windurstan Leader - Kupipi - Heavens Tower - Clerical Chamber

Pashhow Marshlands Ballista - (I-7)

Meriphataud Mountains Ballista - (G-7)

Junger Forest Ballista - (I-8)

How to get it
First, speak to your Nation'ss Conflict Director. When you do this, you will watch a cut scene that explains the history of Conflict and the reinstatement of Ballista. Then you will recieve two letters, one from each nation's director. Take them to the director for each of the two nations. (See the palace locations above. After a brief cut-scene, you will be allowed to talk to the Conflict Director. After you talk to him, you will loose one of the letters. One down! Go to the other nation and do the same thing. Next, travel back to your home nation and talk to your own Conflict Director. He will then let you see your nation's leader. Go to the palace and speak with the leader (Bastok and San d'Oria open doors, Windurst talk to the leader). Finally, head back to your home Conflict Director and you will recieve a Ballista License. You're done now!!!

Addendum: Talk to the Conflict Director and ask about Conflict Earrings and he will talk about them and will give you one if you choose to accept.

Ballista Schedule of Events

Matches ate played only on even days in Vana'diel time.

Day 2, 8, 14, 20, and 26 are San d'Oria vs. Bastok.

Day 4, 10, 16, 22, and 28 are Bastok vs. Windurst.

Day 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 are San d'Oria vs. Winurst.

Each Month has a different Level Restriction as well as a different Entrance Fee:

1st and 7th Month: Level Cap 30 - Entry Fee: 600gil

2nd and 8th Month: Level Cap 40 - Entry Fee: 1600gil

4th and 10th Month: Level Cap 50 - Entry Fee: 3000gil

5th and 11th Month: Level Cap 60 - Entry Fee: 4800gil

3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th Month: No Level Cap - Entry Fee: 7500gil

The Ballista Rules

Find a Petra: A Petra is a rock hidden by the Herald. Find one by using the /quarry command. Don't always expect a petra, however, as the Herald sometimes hides other items too, which must be used immediately and not kept. You cannot lose petras unless you die, leave the area, or score.

Successfully use Sprint: /sprint is a command only usable by players that do not hold a petra. It temporarily boosts speed (like Flee), allowing the player to cover ground quicker.

Successfully use Scout: /scout is a command only usable by players currently holding a petra. It gives you the closest location of a Rook (the goal), which change randomly. Scout will give an approximate location and direction of the nearest rook, allowing for the player to find it.

Gate Breach: In order to open up the Rook to score, you must achieve Gate Breach. In order to achieve this, the player must kill a member of the opposing team. The time period that the Gate Breach is allowed is very low and a score must be achieved ASAP.

Some Useful Items and Commands

Conflict Earring: This is very important. This will allow novices to get tips, tricks, and information about the Ballista during the match.

/quarry: This allows you to dig into the ground and find Petras(see below). It's also useful to find other items such as potions. However, Heralds do not allow item storage so the item found must be used immediately.

/sprint: This allows you to run faster for a short time. This is good because you can cover more ground quickly to find Petras. Note: only usable by those that do not have any Petras.

/scout: Scout allows you to find Rooks a lot easier than searching for a needle in a haystack. Note: only usable by those that carry a Petra.

Some Vocabulary

Petra: The "ball" in the game. Attempt to throw these rocks into a Rook.

Rook: The "goal" in the game. Petras are thrown into these only after a Gate Breach.

Gate Breach: Status achieved after an opposing team member is killed. Required for a goal.

Herald: The referee of the match. The Herald places the petras prior to the match.

Pursuivant: An assistant that will provide information to team members if they have a Ballista Earring.

Camp: The "Home Point" of the match. Players can be teleported here after dying if they wish.

Useful Special Abilities

Provoke: Provoke can be used to force an opposing team player to lock his target on the provoker. This does not always work, but can be used to save a teammate.

Steal / Mug: Abilities can be used to take Petras from opposing team players.

Auto-Attack: The Range of melee weapons is increased.

Resistance: Resist Abilities are enhanced.

Please feel free to add anything I missed or comments.
