For those that ONLY want windowed mode.
You can turn OFF hardware mouse.
Select Force Windowed mode in the XUnleashed Client.
Click play.
It will run ffxi in a true window that is moveable, tabable, etc. AND the mouse is accurate.
Now, if you want to run scripts and be windowed, for now you will have to live with the mouse being off just a little.

Hello.. I have just recently registered with your site.. so I'm not sure whether or not this problem has been addressed, but I was wondering if there is a certain setting that must be set to allow me to run in windowed mode, tab between other programs and still have my controller work.. I have a ps2 to usb adapter and play FFXI on my PC with a PS2 controller.. and if I tab out of FFXI and go back in, the controller no longer functions..
Thanks in advance,
Pesmerga

No, the controller will always stop working no matter what you do when you tab out of FFXI using XUnleashed. Just assume it'll never get fixed either and you won't be disappointed, it's been a know issue for over a year.
It seems none of those developing XUnleashed uses the functionality and thus don't realize how critical proper controller support is in FFXI. I simply don't use XUnleashed whenever I want to play the game, it's absolutelly useless for leveling/questing. If you search around I'm certain you'll quickly find a windower that works properly with the controller and you can use XUnleashed for other stuff like macro fishing.

Thanks asl18fs.. I know that another windower used to handle the controller.. but the last update that i used still hadn't re-addressed the issue.. personally I don't understand how people can like playing strictly using a keyboard..

works well for the most part. The window is tabable and can be hidden behind/brought up front again, however, it cannot be minimzed and it still fixed locked in the top left corner of the screen.
When Hardware Mouse is OFF, The cursor is locked within the game window.
When Hardware Mouse is ON, I can feely move in and out of the game window. Why? i dont know, but it works
Biggest thing is the movability, I followed those instructions exactly (ecept the hardware ON/OFF thing) and am not able to move the window around the screen. Im running windows 2000. any suggestions beyond what you posted up top there?

No you cant move the window.
If you want it smaller, change the in game resolution.
