Fishing Guide 0-50 : FFXI General Discussions

Ok This is my first guide so please be gentle, my fishing it at 50 right now so this guide will be expanding as I advance in fishing skill. Plain and simple no complicated terms or anything, just for the average player that wants to level one of the best ways to make money in this game along with crafting..

First of all lear this page is you have no idea how fishing works, this page pretty much explains and takes the mistery out of fishing

Lets begin: Just a quick note you will a little bit of money to start off with this guide as you have to buy two pieces of equipment to start.

LEVEL 0-6 PORT WINDURST[B]
A lot of people like to start off by going straight to moat carp, but the idea here is to gain levels, the more skill you have the better you will be and learn in the process of finding out what and where to use your rquipment.
Get your self from the nearest AH a Carbon Rod and a Sabiki Rig and go to where the guild is get suppoert from the taru fishing there and start fishing. Note: fishing is pretty slow the first few levels just hang on, you will not regret doing this. here you will fish up Barstore Sardines and Quus x3 sometimes one sometimes 2 and sometimes 3. Seel all your Quus to the guild and Sardines, well you have choices:

want fame and money? (who doesn't?)...turn them in for money(70+ gil each) and windurst fame to the npc right in the entrance to the guild store on the dock or just sell them in the AH by the stack.

Want to craft them? Barstore Sardine+wind crystal= 2 slices sardines

Now you will get some money doing any of the options dont spend it on something else, INVEST, by this I mean whenever you can afford a piece of fishing guear go buy it or for the next step go with a composite Rod, this HELPS a lot, and you will be using it foreverequipment along with Rod. You can use carbon rod for the next levels but it will break, you will catch more with carbon rod but again invest in what you will be using before you really start to use it a lot.

6-11 Composite Rod With insect balls---WINDURST WOODS

Moat Carp here again you should be using carbon/composite rod. with a lot of insect balls. Remember To turn in you guild test item to move up in rank when you reach level 8 at least and not after 10 or you will not level, always do this, im not going to tell you each time and what to turn in, there are a lot of places where you can find that out. Here you will be making good money and have choices too.

Money? sell stacks at AH
Fame, money, starting your LU's quest: go to port sandoria and turn them in there. You will get a decen amount of money at this level range, I would consider leveling cooking with it to a level where you can make your own paste with it and complete your equipment(clothes/rod)

11-15 Composite/Fly lure----East Ronfaure
Here you will be catching Cheval Salmon and Shining trout. Sell to NPC for not as good money as carp but decent enough profit. You will loose your lure once a while so with the money you're making just buy as needed.

15-25Composite/Frog Lure---La thiene Plateau
I Squeezed a lot of levels here in this area because simply, You dont have to travel all around Vanadiel to get skill at this point in time, close to a city and to a guild where to dump the fish. little pond in L-10 is all uyou will need here and your lure and rod. here you will fish Drak Bass, Giant Catfish and Red Terrapins. This is a good point to learn how to adjust your scripts if you're using one to target certain fish, if you want skills fast target Giant Catfish at first then when you get to 18 adjust to target Both Catfish and Bass, if you know how to do this you will never fish any items or monsters.

25-35Composite/Sliced Sardine---East/West Sarutabaruta Sea

Adijust your script again with weight to target Ogre Eel at fisrt then at 31 Adjust ot both Eel and Gold Lobster. With your skill you can make Sliced Sardines pretty easy by fishing them 3 at a time with sabiki rig at port windurst then using wind crystal on them.

35-53Composite/Rogue Rig/Frog Lure

Here you will be switching between Buburimu peninsula and La thiene plateau, its your choice. Fist go to Bubu to the sea and again adjust your script for this to target just what you want(Shall Shells) With a Rogue rig(you should have anough money to buy one by now the cost something around 30k but a couple of stacks will get it back when you sell them back to AH. When you get to 40 you can switch to La thiene and target Red Terrapin at the same pond (i do this since im leveling cooking and they serve me well to make vampire juice cheap) both are good places to fish for skill ups and money, both sell good, red terrapin you can just sell to NPCs and shall shells you can AH them in jeuno.

Well hope that helps some people to start fishing and take a little bit of mystery off it. Any suggestions would be great and will be adding as I progress(hopefully)

hey dude u can use composite rod the whole time from lv 0 but good info other whise i needed it
