Gil from copper ore : FFXI General Discussions

i just found out that if you get copper ore from the in bastok but it can probley be done other places smithing guild (on my server its like 18 gil) then sell it for 100gil (thats what i get) at the aution house and you will probley make some good money but, im just testing it now so im not sure how many people want it. IF if you guys find out that it works ok just post.

about 2 hours later and a few thousand gil richer it works.

The higher you fame in that nation the cheaper it is to buy, this works with all item's sold in shop's

There is a limit to how much ores you can get from guilds.

ok airship shops sell copper ingots (i've seen them as low as 8 gp) but your doing the wroung thing with them don't resell them work on goldsmithing ( 4x copper ore + fire crystal = 1 copper ingot ) copper ingots sell for like 10-15k a stack depening on server! good money for anyone that can get 2 the ore vendor!

Purchase infinite Copper Ores at Port Bastok near ship dock. Once you're high enough (up to 17) you can desynth Brass Hairpins down to Brass Ingots and synth Brass Ingots back into Brass Hairpins. You can level off both. Saves you quite a bit of money.

You have got to be joking me. Airships have shops? Where the hell are the shop merchants on the Airships? What airships have them? I only knew about boats having shops.

ok - there are three airship shops, one in each starter city. They're not actually on the airship - but after you pay to board (or disembark, but don't go through customs), there will be a couple of npcs who will sell items specific to the city they are in.

The main thing sold in Bastok is Copper Ore (10gil for me (fame 7)), and one of the other cities (Windurst I think) sells Moko Grass for next to nothing.

If all you want to do is buy from an npc store and sell at ah, the one that imo works best is buying pickaxes - these will make a much better profit than the ores (copper ores sell rarely tbh, and make 100gil per ah slot...thats not good enough really), they sell fast, and make a decent profit per ah slot.

The bit about leveling goldsmithing is something I have done however, and highly recommend it for medium/lower level players (below 50ish). This has grown so long as I am writing it, that its kinda turned into a sort of mini-guide.

On my (overpriced) server, the fire crystal stacks are about 12K (not in basty though lol), and the ores cost very little. Ingot stack nets 25K on ah, and they sell SUPER FAST. I mean super fast - they will probably go faster than you can make them.

Another one is Mythril Ore. If your own nation is in 1st place, the airship shop will carry mythril ores for around 1800G (with high fame). These should sell for a good profit, especially if you make them into ingots.

Although you will fail some, you will typically make enough anyway to cover for this. Copper ingots will get you up to Goldsmithing 3. Beware trying to skillup further, because the next stage is a big gil loser.

There are a few other tricks with low level Goldsmithing. I'll write it into a full (ish) guide here.

Skilling up:
0-3: Copper Ingots: (Fire Crystal + 4 Copper Ore) -> Copper Ingot...These will make a good profit. Buy ore from airship shop/guild

3-6: Copper Hairpins: (Wind Crystal + Copper Ingot) -> Copper Hairpin...This loses gil - alot tbh. Save up the hairpins for desynthesis back to ingots when you reach 6. This recipe turns valuable stuff into worthless trash. Be aware that it will lose tens, or even hundreds of thousands of gil.

6-7: Copper Ingot: (Lightning Crystal + Copper Hairpin) -> Use up all your spare hairpins from the above stage. Don't make more though. Save one for guild test.

6/7-9: Brass Ingot: (Fire Crystal + 3 Copper Ore + Zinc Ore) -> Will probably make a little gil. Zinc must be bought from ah.

Guild Test (8-10) = Copper Hairpin

9-11: Brass Sheet: (Wind Crystal + Brass Ingot): Another loser. Not so bad this time though.

Couple of choices here:

11-17: Brass Hairpin (Wind Crystal + Brass Ingot): Not too good. Hairpins never really are tbh.

12-18: Silver Ingot: (Fire Crystal + 4 Silver Beastcoin): Fairly break-even. Ingots should sell well.

16-20 Silver Ingot: (Fire Crystal + 4 Silver Ore): Huge profit here IF you can buy the ores from the guild for less than 500gil each. This will only happen one day a week (the day after it opens). Worth doing even if you can't skill up on them.

Guild Test (18-20) = Brass Hairpin

20-24: Brass Hammer: (Fire + Brass Ingot + Bronze Hammer): These aren't too bad too make. Brass ingots are easy enough to get, and the weapons shop sells the Hammers. Vendor these when you make them. Its a loss, but not crippling, and worth it for what you can do with skill 24 :-).

OK - Now for gil making with low skill Goldsmithing (less than 25): There are a few main recipes, one of which is the Silver Ingot recipe above, with Ores provided by the guild.

Both of the remaining recipes are Desynthesis. For those not used to it, it uses Lightning Crystals, and there is a very high fail rate (about 50%, even if your above cap), but the HQ rate is also higher than normal.

The first one requires skill 9.

Brass Ingot : (Lightning Crystal + Sapara)

HQ#1: Brass Ingot * 2
HQ#2: Silver Ingot

The saparas can be sold for around 800gil from the weapons shop (in basty), and the crystals are (my server) 10K a stack. That makes 23 synths needed per stack of Brass ingots approx. Total cost = 8000gil * 2 + 700gil * 25 = about 33K. Brass ingot stack goes for 45-50K on my server. Check the prices before trying to do this.

Next one is at skill 24.

Silver Ingot: (Lightning Crystal + Silver Earring)

HQ#1: Silver Ingot
HQ#2: Silver Ingot * 2

This one makes far far more than the one above. The earrings can be bought for about 1200gil from the Jewelry shop in Lower Jeuno (do this while seeking party - good location for it). On my server, cost for making a stack = about 20K in crystals, plus 30K in earrings. The Ingot stack will go for an easy 80K. This is a huge profit, and should work on most, if not all servers.

hate to disapoint you... but if you were selling your ores @ the AH that's pretty lame, you can make about 8000 gil by farming your crystals, and synthising 4X12 copper ore into a stack of copper ingot, note that copper ingot is a low lvl recipie so you can make it regardless of your crafting skills.. instead of selling 48 copper ore for 100, which is around 4800 gils over a long time because you can't put more than 7 items on display and 3000 gilz of stack of fire you end up with a total profit of 6936 over a long period of time, where if you were to craft them you can display @ the AH stacks of copper ingot (8k) up to 7 of them, which is 7x8k = 42k, not bad money for a lvl 1 to 20, if you come accross zinc you want to safe those, those are like for lvl 5 goldsmithing brass ingot recipie, if you do copper ingot a lot you should be ready soon to make brass ingot.. more money.. more toys.. more love..

The easiest thing is Copper Ore into Ingots, because they're selling like a dream at the minute as more and more people are refusing to synth them themselves.

Fire crystals may be more expensive now, so why not go to Ghelsba Outpost and level a few of your lower level jobs? Even getting lizard skins, selling them, and buying fire crystals with that gil.

My smithing is 3, and I have no intention of taking it any further
