I truly suffer on your behalf.
Anyway, in the ffxi config utility basically turn off everything and lower resolutions to minimum. Then try slowly raising it.
As the 9200 se is passivelly cooled your computer will most likely crash from overheating anyway.

I'd suggest returning the card and buying a better one for like $50 more.

I have the ATI Radeon 9600 Mobile in my dell and it runs as smooth as any desktop card. A little high end on price but it is very nice for FFXI. I always turn off the weather effects because that even makes my Radeon 9800Pro on my desktop get laggy.

Two video cards I would personally highly recommend are either the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 MB OR the 256 MB) or the NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra. The ATI card will run you $250/$400, and the NVidia will run you about $450.

I would prefer the GeForce, however, due to the built-in Anti-Aliasing options. It was designed with hardcore gamers in mind, so it's got some nifty options which will further enhance (if you don't mind a minimal drop in performance when using those options) your gaming experience.

I use a Radeon 7500 on the IBM thinkpad with everything turned off with 1024X768 and 512x512 on ffxi config. and all effects off in game.

On Comp Have AIW 9800 Pro with AAx4 and effects on, but some chat filters off.

Gets rough around jeuno but the weater is OK

I don't know personally, but I hear there are a couple problems when running FFXI on NVidia cards. Nothing serious, just some bugginess that won't crash the game is all. Anything on par with the Radeon9200 and up will run the game just fine at decent resolutions.
