I can tell ya that the Ranger nerf is quite the suck! It won't be bad after finding the sweetspot but it is VERY touchy. One step too far back and complete whiff, too close and your damage is cut in half and that's just for normal shots, weaponskills are a whole other monster.... an example from last night:
Sidewinder (at optimal range, w/e that is) - 868
Sidewinder (at melee range, same mob) - 556
That's a pretty damn big difference in damage >.< Granted it is still higher than most other's WS but losing 312 damage because being litteraly 5-6 steps closer to a mob may be a bit too much.
With all that said, it's not going to make a bit of difference to !@#$%^&* about it. Just need to adapt to the new play style and press on to 75.
I've heard the Shadow = -enmity isn't nearly as bad for the Ninjas as everyone expected.
That's all I got for now...

WHM blink was not affected, only Ninja Utsusemi. The NIN "nerf" wasnt as bad. You lose more hate when you actually get hit by the mob. If you are a good ninja, it really isnt even noticable.

That's all I got for now...
I'm quite reluctant to call SE's adjustments "nerfs"... I'm an "old school" RPG player, and I'm used to having this issues with rangers and archers.
But... now that SE has shown the stick to those who play classes with non magical ranged attacks they should also show the carrot.
There's a feat present in quite a few RPGs called "Point Blank Shot". If you want a good description on how that feat works I refer you to the 3rd edition rules of D&D.
Basically after obtaining that feat and under certain circumstancies you can overcome the huge impact in your damage output that attacking the mob from close range has.
I think that a feat like that would be fantastic to be implemented as a hi-level job hability for ranger only.
I also forecast this update is going to have a severe "weeding" impact in those RNGs that have become such by having IGE directly linked to their bank accounts.
This is no D&D or Warhammer... there's no squares (but in square enix ) or metric tape to calculate your position in relation with the mob. Therefore getting consistently those "sweets spots" you mention is going to demand much more dexterity and skill from the player.
Just having peacok charm, sniper's +1, optical hat, e-bow..., consuming s.sushi+1 like water and tossing the most expensive arrows/bullets as they were falling from the sky like the mana is not going to make a RNG the great DD it can be anymore.
It will also (sigh) open a whole new world of possibilities to scripts like "Ranger Helper" though...
Anyway, as I am no Nostradamus, take my forecast with a grain of salt. Time is the only thing you need to prove a theory being wrong.

um... there is a weapon skill that rangeres get thats like the point blank shot. in order to do the weaponskill you have to be within melee range of it, or the weaponskill dosnt go off and you lose your tp. i think its blast arrow/ blast shot.

By watching the radar it's pretty easy to see if you're at the sweet spot.

Watched a rng do less than 100 dmg on Genbu with eagle eye and slugshot (60'ish and 80'ish to be exact).
Not too bad when a blm's fire 1 should do about the same.

Its sucks, i was a great ninja, used great gear, enmity + gear and all my ni's inlcluding, slow, poision, paralyze and blind... keep hate wasnt an issue for me but since the patch ive spent HOURS lfg, tried to made 2 partys, in failure.
SO I QUIT NINJA
Got back to my trusty whm, amaizing how much money had invested on the ninja, lol all gear neted 8 million gils.

The reason ninja is slow now is because people are still waiting for the bad ninjas to weed out. The bad ninjas were tolerable before the patch, now they make a group really bad.

I'm a 75blm, 75rng and 65nin. The nerf definitely affected rngs. In exp parties, rngs can still dish out the same DD as they did before the update if they learn to play the job the new way. Finding the "sweet spot" isn't very hard to do. As for hnm, I've heard that rngs do very poorly on them depending on the situation. Someone in my ls said 200 sidewinder to an hnm I think. But then again, I wasn't there to test myself. Whether the sweet spot was found or not is still in question. I still believe in rngs and as long as u remember that optimal range differs from weapon to weapon and from mob to mob, then you'll be ok.
Nin on the other hand I think is even better. Provoking over time and ninjutsu spells seem to be much better hate pullers than pre-update.
Most new gen blms tend to chaincast right from the start, so I can see some nins having problems. Pre update, it was harder to pull hate back from a chaincaster. Now I get it easily with a simple ninjutsu spell or provoke. I do just fine even with -3enmity in merrits.

Yeah i really hate this last update.. i woulda rather had all other jobs be made stronger than ranger b made weaker. My only solo solution is when i have 100% tp is to de-lock on to a mob, run back and as the mob starts moving lock on and spam sidewinder. You aren't able to get into that "sweet spot" but its definitely a lot better. Also, i love shadowbind more now than i ever did
