How to find out what mob .dat files are from what place? : FFXI General Discussions

I am new to hacking, macro making and all sorts of things of that nature. Unlike some of you, I didn't grow up with a PC in my room. This is why I need your help guys. I have the FFXI Model Viewer and I know how it works and all, but lets say I want to remove mobs from Argus pop place....how do I know what .dat file to remove? There are a lot of .dat files of gobs and scorp and stuff, but I want to know how to find out the specific .dat files for that place around argus pop. How do I do that? ^^

You could move one of the "suspected" .dat files to another file (so you don't lose it) then logon and check out if that is the mob you removed.

Bah, too many .dat files to remove and place in another folder to find the right ones. But thank you for the help man, I guess I will have to find out the hard way. Now thinking about it, I might just make a guide that tells you what .dat files are from what place. Just to make it easier for people like me who are curious about .dat file removing. Thanks man ^^

There is a huge list of what every one of those files are somewhere on this site and it was pulled from the Killing Ifrit forums I believe. The only problem is that is does not define the exact type of mob it is... like it just says Goblin for like 50 or so files. I was thinking about doing that also but I just don't have the time to take one .dat file out, login and see which mob was removed and do that over and over and over again. Finding out which exact one's are certain NM's would be much harder I guess... and I think most NM's share the same model as its surrounding mobs.

I am sure somone has already done it but just wants to keep the info to theirselves.

Theres already a guide to dat files, and as of now I am currently engaged in a programming project that will ultimatly accomplish what you ask of, point and click style.

What info I can give you is, if I'm not mistaken, many notorious monsters use the same models(or .dat's) that normal monsters do.

This is great because you can turn off more junk monsters with fewer .dat modifications. This isn't good at all in the case that, you are camping a Hecteye NM and other Hecteyes spawn around it. By disabling the hecteye dat, you could disable the hecteye NM as well.

Yea, I'm sure someone has done it already too.... the best way to keep the value of information is to keep it exclusive. I am VERY inclined to keep this to myself. Why would I hand something out to have asshats I hate, so they are allowed to using anything I create to their advantage?

Yeah I agree with both of you. I want to create this guide because I know how it feels to be in need of help like I am sure both of you know as well. This game already has super botter people. Bots way better than Fast Fingers and stuff it seems. Sharing this might give other people a chance to enjoy the game more. A lot of people take advantage of bots, exploits etc. , but others just used it when needed. plus I am part of Unleashed....why not contribute. ^^ But thanks to both of you a better understand this .dat business now ^^
