mining in the new areas= death? : FFXI General Discussions

hi i just wanne know if you mined in the new areas like Mount Zhayolm or halvung?. is it possible to mine there or is there too much aggro? i was there last night and you have to be very carefull. i saw some player mining there,but i dont know if this were bots or real player cause they didnt talk to me and they always went the same way... so you every mined there? and what were your experiences?

I used to mine there all the time (Halvung). It really wasn't that dangerous (but I was POS mining). The only tough mining spots were the 2 inside that small room in the northwest area of the map. Dropping invisible and mining the points was risky because theres like 3 trolls patrolling the small room. You CAN do it though, and I have, you just gotta have balls.

Then their are the 4 spots with Bombs near them. These guys move very irradically and so its hard to guess where theyre going next, but you can usually catch a break when they move all the way to the other end from the mining point.

The rest of the points there are only guarded by Crawlers, so you can mine safely as long as Sneak is up, or if they're asleep. There are some other Troll Guarded spots, but they arent as risky as the 2 I mentioned above.

Its very worth it though. Luminium Ore isn't too hard to come by, although sometimes you will go and not find any. The Troll Vambraces sell really quick, quicker and for more gil than the Troll Pauldrons do. If you Goldsmithing is around the 50's you can desynth the Moblin mail armor (not leather) and sometimes get a Gold Ingot (i used to get a lot because my Golsmithing was right around the gold lvl). You can sell the Bomb Ash and Sulfur too for a lil more gil.

Orichalcum ores drop like Gold ore does in Oldton Movalpolis, so trips can get pretty lucrative.

thats nice to hear...do you have the ids from the mining points for halvung? cause pyrolol needs them. he is working on a mining bot for this areas...
