Honestly in my opinion the water in Final Fantasy XI is terrible. I can't stand the most of it. Only good places are Valkurm dunes. The water either looks like flat painted blue ground, in some cases black. Or it looks like there is no water at all because how clear it is. I was wondering if there is a way to retexture all the water in Final Fantasy XI to make it more believeable, maybe even a few animations or something. I'm not a great modder so It would be better if someone has already done this. Does anyone know if anyone has retextured the water in FFXI? If you do it would be a great help, the water just keeps taking me out of the game.

Actually yah, I myself use plenty of 3D programs, and can tell that the water is kinda low quality for nowadays computers. But I don't think you could get a really good quality water texturing becuase of how water is used.
If anything, one could try and find the .dat, and add a bit of bump mapping, and a bit stronger reflection/refraction.
If someone told me how to turn a Dat into a 3DS file and back I'd gladly do it, in fact I'd re-texture entire areas to look a bit better.
FFFXI could use a bit of a makeover.

Lion, go to google and search for "FFXI .dat mod" or something relevant to your question. I was googling that once for someone a long time ago, and O came across of lot of .dds and other formats and they explained how to format, edit, and reformat the files.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I used to use model viewer and convert into a mqo, then meta could convert it into 3ds, but now you can;t do it anymore without buying the full version.
Thank you ^ ^
