Well...the first of all, thanks ASL, your script is awesome!! :D
I am kinda stuck lvling from 40 to 50 sigh. Right now i am 42.x, and i started to fish in beaucedin glacier for icefish, but all i can get there are 80%+ monsters, and all are "nice and sweet" krakens! Best of all i cant use magic there cose thare are always 2 ice elemental around, so i had to stop fishing there (btw, i am a rdm 57). Now i got back to south gustaberg for gold lobster and zafmlug bass to get at least at 45, but seems that they dont want to be catched by me lol. I get up to 90% miss!!! When i get a normal 40-65 miss than it takes like 5h to get some skill up of 0.1-0.2!! I am using a comp+sinking minnow. I also tryed to fish red terrapin (comp+frog lure/shell bug) but with very bad results. I mean i catch 2 or 3 stacks of them, but i just get like a 0.2 skillup!! Really, i am kinda frustrated right now...dont know what do to as it seems that i cant find the way to move to 50. Maybe is totally normal what is happening to me, but according to my experience this lvlup is way to slow!
Hope that i can get some input that may help me someway.
Thanks a lot in advace to all to read it and for any comment.

PD: I started the lu shang quest, but i am a little upset about it...do i have to keep track of the moats i give to them?? cose as far as i can see they will not tell me how many i gave them. If so, i hope not to lose my little post it

The girl behind the two brothers, Ufanne, will tell you how many moat carp you have given to them. She won't tell you every time so you will just have to keep trying.

As I can remember, I stayed in South Gustaberg until lv 45 then moved to East Sarutabaruta for Blade fish, I think, I can't really remember. But I did my 45 - 87 in East Sarutabaruta. Fishing starts to slow down A LOT around 55. Expect to get one level of fishing skill every 1 or even 2 days.

Oh great thanks, the idea of having to keep on a paper the moats i am giving to them was kinda frustrating lol
I am having so bad results in south gustaberg, but i will try to keep there untill 45, and move to East sarutabaruta as you did...and yes, from 35-40 start to raise very slow...and i suppose the higher the level, the slower will be the skill raise...sigh
Just one thing about south gustaberg, i am using sinking minnow, but i know that is also possible to use sliced sardine, kinda expensive tho. My question is, what is best, i have heard so many bad thing about the use of both things that i dont know what to do. Would it be possible to improve a bit the catch of zafmug bass, the highest around my lvl i can catch, even if i took some bastore bream, using sliced sardine instead of sinking minnnow? i cant wait the moment to hit 45 and leave south gustaberg lol

Thanks a lot for your advice, ultima, very kind from you....and grats for your awesome lvl87 or more.
Btw, at that lvl you do really money, cose from the beginning of the game i always thought that fishing was the best choice for making money in FFXI...and i still think the same, even if my fishing skill raises sooooooo slow lol
Thanks again :D

If you thought fishing skill was slow at 55+ then just wait until you get to 91+...

Hehe, that's true. But it only slow from 87 to 90. After 90, it became a little faster to me. It took me total about 10 days to get from 87 to 95.

To necronim:
I can't remember exactly what bait I used. But I think the bait I used allowed me to catch 4 different types of fish which all give me the possibility of skill gain around that level. The general idea is to use a lure so you won't have to carry so much bait on you and it is less expensive unless you have a line break which can be prevented if you choose the correct rod and lure. Fishing skill increase doesn't really slow down around 30. It was quite uniform to me until 55 when I see a DRAMATIC decrease in skill points.

I have a friend who has VERY high level blacksmithing. He makes A LOT of money but I am not sure about how much profit he can get since the materials themselves can be expensive too. The beneficial point for fishing is that you can bot fishing, which is why you are here, and that you can have almost no investment into it. That is, you get pure profit from fishing. Well, from my own experience SE has changed a lot of stuff about fishing. It is now much much more difficult to catch fish in Sarutabaruta area, I haven't tested on other areas. I used to get 1 catch every 3.4 cast but lately I have been getting 1 catch for every 6-8 cast. So, good luck! :o

Hmmm i will stay a bit more in south gustaberg, even if i am getting a ver low skill raise.
About the line break...i have some of them, using a composite and a sinking minnow, but as far as i know, comp is the only choice right now to fish in south gustaberg...cose mithran will breake and i dont have any lu shang...still lol

Totally agree, i also raise some crafting, but are ridiculously expensive compared with the "possible" income you can get at very high lvls...and most of them need also another crafting skill to synth high lvl items...and a lot of time too.

I read that a lot of ppl are doing the lu shang quest if a few days, like 10-15 days, and that seems to me very very fast, considering that the catch rate cant be very high anyway...but i suppose that to do that you need to bot 24/7, right?
And to do that i have the doubt...fishing in rabao or in windy? I know that catch rate in rabao is really high, but also that is one of the places where anti-bots works more....well i suppose i should wait to hit at least 55 to start seriously with the lu shang quest.
Really thanks a lot for your kind help to all my noobie questions about fishing, but is really a complicated and interesting skill. The most complicated thing is to find the right rod for the right lure....and the right place^^

thanks again :D

Well, people who do it in 10-15 days should shun Rabao and Windurst like the plague since they're streaky.
Knightswell, Zeruhn, Bastok, Rolanberry etc etc are better.

Yeap, is what i was thinking, those place are crowded all the time. I will follow your advice and head to those places where i usually fish too.
Btw, i finally hit 45...is it too low to start with lu shang to try to complete it? Should i wait untll 55 or so?
Thanks again :D

Everywhere is streaky now. Knightwell, Zeruhn, Rolandberry, Bastok included. The only way it is at all possible to get Lu Shangs rod in 10-15 days is to buy the fish from the AH (or bazaar if your lucky) and if you want to go that way, it'b be better (and prolly a bit cheaper) to just buy the rod out-right.

The sooner you can start the quest the better. I'm level 54 and I'm looking to get the rod as a X-mas gift.
