What does your direction facing have to do with anything?

Supposedly, by facing different directions while synthing you can increase your success rate or increase your chance of HQ. From what I've read and done this does add a slight boost in results. Go out to the crafting forums on the web and you'll find tons of posts on this subject.
I agree it would be cool to implement this with the synthing bot so it would automatically turn you to the right heading for increased success or increased HQ's. Would be a bit of a pain though and from my experience it really doesn't boost you that much.

From everything I have tested and everything everyone I know has tested along the lines of what direction you face does not effect a thing. Yet there is a noticable difference when it comes to what crystal to what day.
I believe the heading does effect the crafting bonus, but it is usually only like +2pts which is hardly noticable to say it works or doesn't work. In a recent dev chat this question was brought up and the dev's reply was along of the lines of "depends what you're crafting :p"
I had to modify the compass to better explain what it means. I hope this helps out. Unfortunitly, I had to put the pic on a Word Document. Still works though.

I'm not exactly sure of it's significance, but when facing the directions, you can see discolored stars on clear days (the colors of these corrospond to the colors of the direction people claim to effect synthing)
Those directions are:
Dark - North
Light - Northeast
Ice - East
Wind - Southeast
Earth - South
Lightning - Southwest
Water - West
Fire - Northwest
Face each direction to see the appropriate colored star.
I have already found that day of the week effects everything element related (synthesis and otherwise)
Ever sneak yourself and have it begin to wear before you went anywhere, then have run around nervous because you thought your sneaks were weak, only to find out it lasted seemingly forever?
It was probably on Iceday.
There is a colored orb next to each spell, indicating elemental relationship. Sneak's is green (wind). Ice is strong to wind, and your first sneak was a 'failure'... the next one was a "HQ" so-to-speak, and lasted an extended duration. I'll post more infromation later... found this looking for a good goldsmithing guide.
