Tanking : FFXI General Discussions

This is from a White point of view.

For Paladin and any tank. Play white and see how hard it is to keep someone alive that sucks and strive not to be like them.

A tank should play White, Black Mage and RNG so they see and learn how hard it is to play with a tank that can't keep hate. I am not talking about the 1st 20 or 30 lvls. You need to do it at 30 or above where one of your spells will pull the hate of the tank. Playing White is good for the Pld since he'll need the skill that the white will give him. Anyway my point is that I now started playing melee and I dont have the same problems others do keeping hate. Even as a Ninja. So I'll try to share what I know. How to get the Jobs. Go to Mysterytour or allkahazam since they already got that down and it be a waste to repeat what they said. Do a little research you be suprise what you can find out from others.

Paladin
Ok 1st ull need to sub Warrior. If ur soloing then ninja might be better or thieve for better drops its all on you. 2nd and for most Your a Pld use ur magic, your attacks suck so you need to heal and Provoke for hate. Your trying to get hate so use ur High heals not Cure 1 to save MP since you have none your white should be casting Cure 1 on you not the other way around. Hate is what should be in your mine and at all cost. Your job is to stay their and get Hit that is what you are decined for. Even if you are about to die you should be thinking on how to keep the hate. Once a Mob attacks someone else that is when the problems begin because you lose the mages Focus on you. Remeber that you have the highest defense and no power to attack once someone else dies it will be that much harder to beat that Mob. Another thing for Higher Lvl Plds. USE FLASH again USE FLASH When a Mob comes in Pld 1st few moves should be FLASH PROVOKE CURE 3 PROVOKE FLASH. I hate it when I cast FLASH and the Mob comes after me this Should not happen to a WHite when a PLD is tanking. Also if a Pld has Cure 3 and the White uses Cure 3 you should not lose Hate.

Their is nothing more Beautiful than a Pld that takes pride in keeping hate. I love to see Paladins that no matter what the White does the Paladin maintains the HATE. Paladins that Laugh at the Attempts of a RNG trying to pull Hate from him. They Mock the MB Freeze of 1200 Damage. This is what it means to be a tank.

Warriors
I dont really know what you should sub I have seen Ninja, thief and Mnk pick one. When you tank you it will be in the 1st 30 lvls after that it will move to Plds or nin. The way you need to go by keeping hate is by Power pure Power. Beat the living Piss out of that Mob. Dont hold back. If your are tanking you are propably the one with the highest defense. Provoke and do everything you can to increase your damage. Bring a Bow since they hit really good. Any Job that helps u hit the best that is the one u should use. Again this is for tanking. You want to keep hate DD is ur way. After lvl 30 or so you should not be tanking and if you are hopefully you are backing up a Ninja.

Warriors You are DD machines and you need to make as much damage as possible. When you are tanking by urself you. The pty should be set up for speed since you will not take hits to well. The best would be a back up for a ninja since you both be equal in damage resistance. Warriors Tank are usually for the begining. Since they are DD and not tanks.

Ninja
Same as Paladin execpt that you need to keep ur Blink up. Very important to keep the Shields up at all times. Also get the all the spells and spam them. You will go the route of DD since you wont be able too to cast high hate spells but you'll need to Spam spells and annoy the !@#$%^&* out of the mob. Bow is another good way for DD. Your method is a Balance of spells with good DD to keep your Hate.

Ninja you are neither DD or tank machines once your Shields are down you are useless and beging to hurt the pty. Spam Spam Spam your spells and you should have a Bow, Gun to make more DD to keep hate. I good Ninja should have Ninjutsu capped. I have seen both good and bad ninja tanks. I have seen bad Paladins but Ninja are more way more common. I have seen Ninja that never get hit and have great hate control. I have seen some that never get hit but cant keep hate at all. I have seen Ninja just plain suck. A ninja job is more than just spamming his shields. Some of the Best Ninja i have seen have guns for awesomse DD. Ninja are great tanks but its a Balance of DD and spells. They are not Paladins and they are not Warriors and the ones that realize this. Are the best Ninja tanks since they are able to abapt to bring the Balance to their pty.
