Updated Fishing Guide 1-50 : FFXI General Discussions

Hey everybody i'm posting a new guide as of demand.....
I would like to try out the new fishing bot from here.....
but....i don't have a permium membership, help me out XU!

Levels 1-11: Moat Carp

Suggested fishing locations:
Port San d'Oria
Windurst Walls
Rabao
West Ronfaure Knightswell
Other areas (Western Altepa, Rolanberry Fields) can give better bite rates, but you will have to contend with wandering mobs and ones you fish up.

Suggested bait:
Insect Paste [Will also attract Tricolored Carp (27) and Gold Carp (56.)]

Moat Carp are a bread-and-butter fish, selling for 3-6k per stack depending on server. You can also turn them in for the Lu Shang quest (for 10 gil apiece) in Port Sandy.

Levels 11-17: Yellow Globe

Suggested fishing locations:
Mhaura
Port Jeuno
Buburimu Penninsula

Suggested bait:
Lugworms. Will also attract Bastore Sardines. You can also use a Sabiki Rig (this will catch up to 3 Sardines or Globes at a time) but you run the risk of a broken line or rod losing a 2k lure. I leave that choice up to you.

You can also fish Quus (19) in Selbina, Port Windy, and other places, but Globes generally sell for more at auction.

Levels 17-27: Nebimonite

Suggested fishing locations:
Selbina-Mhaura Ferry
Sea Serpent Grotto (must be level 59+ with Sneak)

Suggested bait:
Crayfish Balls

This will be your first trip on the Ferry. To avoid fishing up monsters, head up to the stairs near the Captain's room and fish there. If you can Sneak yourself, you'll be perfectly safe here - otherwise, you'll have to concern yourself with the random spawned mobs (and especially the Sea Horror.)

Levels 27-37: Shining Trout

Suggested fishing locations:
East Ronfaure
Jugner Forest River

Suggested bait:
Little Worms

Where you fish here depends on your ability to handle the mobs in the area. Jugner gives the added benefit of Moat Carp catches in addition to Crayfish, Trout, and Tricolored/Gold Carp, but you should be around level 35 or so to fish there safely. You can also use a Fly Lure in Ronfaure to fish solely Trout and Salmon.

Levels 37-46: Gold Lobster

Suggested fishing locations:
West/East Sarutabaruta
South Gustaberg

Suggested bait:
Sliced Sardines (Will also attract Ogre Eels, Bluetails (55), Bladefish (71) and Bastore Breams (86.)

I suggest switching to either a Mithran or Composite here, as they will have far fewer breaks when you hook a Bladefish or Bream.

Levels 46-50: Sandfish

Suggested fishing location:
Rabao

Suggested bait:
Insect Paste

You get Moat Carp here, too. If you're still serious about fishing, this is a great time to start banking the Carp you catch towards the Lu quest.

Alternate spot (46-53): Shall Shell

Suggested fishing locations:
Buburimu Peninsula
Valkurm Dunes

Suggested bait:
Crayfish Balls (you can also use Robber/Rogue Rig, but you risk losing a 10k lure doing this.)

Slightly better profit ratio here, as long as you use a Mithran or Composite. Skillups have been pretty fast for my friends in Bubu.
