What do you think about the high level prime battles? : FFXI General Discussions

I've been wanting to post something like this for a while but haven't because I thought it was just me wanting to rant

This is just one example of people trying to tell me you need 70+ ONLY to kill high lvl primes ^^

I was doing something in jeuno last night and saw this /shout:

"{Garuda} {Battle} {Looking for members} 4/6 need WHM and DD"

I thought, I can use her dagger maybe in the future and I'm a whm, so what the hell, I'll help out! So I send a /tell to the person and I get a response that asks my level and available subjobs. I reply. A minute later they say: "Sorry 70+ only No thanks". I'm 68 right now and there isn't much of a difference between 68-70 anyways >.>

I reply and said only the tank "should" be 70+, white mages don't really matter as long as they are 50+ usually. I've personally duo'd leviathan and garuda with 70nin and me as a 30-32 whm back when I went around to get moon bauble for fenrir. Most nin and rdm/nin can solo them 70+ too probably lower if they want.

They reply back to me and said something like "be quiet you noob"... I can't stand the words of the "noob" lol (I'll have to find the documentary someone wrote on the "noob" lol. its quite funny lol) Anyways, I replied by doing a /shout by saying something like the people asking for help with garuda for the past hour think a 68whm isn't high enough!. A bunch of people laughed and said things like I can solo all but fenrir!! I said oh well, and went on to do other things.

About 10 mins go by and I get a /tell, saying ok you can help us with garuda. They got desperate inviting a 68whm I guess >.> lol. I got in the party (yes I couldn't wait to see what they had for a pt lol). They had all 70+ people in very nice equips. NIN, PLD, THF, BLM. all rank 10 too. Those people alone can easily kill all the non-fenrir avatars We only had 5 people but can easily kill garuda (pt is finally starting to get smart) so we gathered to teleport. I then remembered a 10smn in my ls needed all the primes still because she hasn't reached lvl 20 to do the mini battles. I told this party about her and they laughed again. lol. Started calling me a noob again and said even if they killed the avatar the lvl 10 wouldn't survive. I said they can wait by the crystal ... they said no leeches.

I said, well unless we get a 6th person, I'm not going. Its a waste of a spot then. The complained but then started shouting again .. no replies. I said just invite my ls friend to fill the spot and we can go. They said no again. So I said ok thanks anyways and left.

I think its pointless to waste a spot when someone can fill it and not be a burden on the party. If they got stupid and got to close to the prime and died ... that's their fault lol. I'll try to raise if I can but not gonna get our pt killed trying ^^

About 15 mins later, one of our thf's came on and heard us talking about that pt. He asked if we wanted to do garuda now because he wants the dagger too. We got 5 people together in our pt:

68whm/blm (me), 75thf/nin, 75brd/whm, ~45blm/rdm, 10smn/whm

I messaged one of the people in that party that wasn't acting like an !@#$%^&* to me (he was actually telling the pt to accept my lvl 10 friend ). Asked if they did the fight yet, .. he said no; so I said you want to come with us? He joined our pt. 71mnk/war.

We went and killed garuda ... total time 9mins and some seconds. Not its not the fastest time, or anywhere close to the fastest time lol but no one died ... no one even got hp in yellow. The blm came up for magic bursts only (didn't have to but did it on her own. any damage helps i guess lol) then went back down to the crystal and joined the 10smn.

I teleported everyone, we went to rabao to finish of the quest. Got my dagger and the lvl 10 got garuda.

We disbanded and I warped back to jeuno. And guess who is /shouting for help with Garuda still

I so badly wanted to /shout and laugh at them ... but I let my urge die and went on about my business

That's funny.

I usually do them with my friend and anyone that wants to come. Its funny that even then allot of times people wont join because they think they will die. White mage and Nin in the 70's is more than enough to kill any of the avaatars but Fen.

Ohh well their loss.

Fenny is funny. He can hit very hard but when he's kited he's too weak.

Pfft not inviting a mage for bein to lvl to low. Is like saying no u can't come ur 2 lvls higher then me

The leader is a high level noob i guess =.=; ...

if i need an avatar done i drag my rdm friend along to solo for me <.< >.> is that cheating XD. lol. Now when it comes to fen fen thats when its nice to have 5 73+ smn friends (i have done fenrir in a normal group aswell).

My PT wiped vs Garuda Prime just last night. SAM61 DRK71 WHM69 BLM65 SMN69 RNG62...
Aerial Blast was pretty much the reason, and WHM used reraise before Garuda reset position.

your mages need to stay out of the range of their 2hr unless they have to reset barfira or whatever. The hardest time I have from the non-fenrir avatars is only with Ramuh and thunderspark. That paralyze-ga sucks lol. It always turns me into this:

I had it stop me from healing my paraylze 10 or so times in a row once. Other than that ... as long as your tank can keep themselves alive until you get it off you, you should be fine ^^ Keep up blink as much as possible -- you had a smn in your pt, I would have had them use aerial armor before you even ran up to the avatar and wait until the bloodpact timer wore off before going back up ^^;

The current record on Ramuh for Garuda was like 1min 40 seconds when we did it @.@ I have heard 2 melee and 4smn's can take out any avatar within a minute or two at most; fenrir usually on the second mb as well. 3 mins for him maybe. I've never tried this on fenrir but you are supposed to do a skill chain with the MB as the weakness of that avatar. Have the 4smns all 2hr for the mb and it is 'supposed' to kill it. Again ... i've never tried it, just heard people say thats how they killed fenrir ^^;

Umm where is your tank. Then you wonder why you died are you serious.

You had no way to effectively control hate and noone to be able to take Damage. Never mind the 2 hr blast which by the way takes 3 shadows with one hit.

If I would have been in that Pty my 1st question would have been so who is tanking?
OOOOOhhh yeah lets have the White Mage do it since we dont have one!

By the way a good tank for any of the Prime Avaatar should be at least LVL 70 or above. NIN or Paladin are the best for PTYS since they can keep hate (even a RED/NIN lvl 75 if he Solos it and can even have a pty as Long as they dont pull hate of the RED).


Only reason your pty died was the pty itself. No way to take Damage or Control hate. While the Avaatar are easy. You will always need a Tank or someone that knows how to Solo them.

very true ^^; The time when I duo'd a few primes with my ~25-30whm/blm and a 75rdm/nin, I would pull hate sometimes if I casted Cure I/II on him even once. My very first prime ever; also when I was ~30whm -- I died because I tried to reset barthundra or whatever and the prime decided to use its 2hr. I ran but didn't make it out of the range before it hit. The 2hr has a huge range compared to a normal -ga spell. Luckly I used a reraise scroll at the start of the fight. after that I hid in the back and awaited its death lol.

also, do not fight the prime on their strong day. Sometimes this will add another 400-600 damage on the 2hr to the unprotected fighter (non-blink/stoneskin)

By the way for that Pty so survive

You would have to do it like this.

Cast SMN again and have the d slow down the Avaatar just enough have Avaatar do a special to get Hate and d disengage and move out of area.

xx SMN ddd ( A>T ) which this is basically the same as this but in different side xx ( T>A ) ddd SMN

So after that you just repeat the same steps until it dies. Also after its 50 % dead the SMN can use his 2 hr to get hate and should be able to get in 3 blast which should finish the Prime off.

I am sure you didnt do this because if you had you problaly would not have died. What problaly happened was one of your dd took hate and ended tanking with Shadows problaly the RNG or SAM. So then your the SMN avaatar could not regain hate. Not to mention your white will now have to heal. Avaatar does 2 hr and all or almost all in Blast area. Then ones it surivive problaly lasted a few seconds because the Prime would have gone after them and they would die as soon as the Avaatar did another speicial.

Any way even with this way. You can see it will put over half of the pty in the Blast Area. If the Prime did the 2hr when you are getting the new tank out you and all in the Blast area would die. This pty setup was still Risky since too many things can and usually do go wrong.
