Whats your favorite Job / Advancd Job?
I'm in a bind as to what to pick, Im fairly new to the game, I do have a lvl 30war/15Thf ATM.
But anyway I'm trying to figure out a good AJ to get...
Was thinking about a PLD but would like to hear what you guys like best for your AJ and why if you could.

When I played FFXI, I had a BLM. It was by far my favorite class. I had been playing since early in the Beta and had explored many of the classes and I found BLM to be the best. Big damage, lots of utility spells and it was very easy to find partys (that is until everyone left for WoW and I sat for hours and hours lfg with no luck). I would recommend BLM. But looking back, I might play BST because it is truly the only "soloable" class wich might help out the crazy downtime waiting for a party.

I have a BLM but its so damn hard to find pt's i just gave up on it.
Now its a fish bot.
But BST sounds cool I was thinking about that one.

The only jobs that will "matter" to HNM linkshells in the endgame are:

RDM (Red Mage)
BRD (Bard)
NIN (Ninja)
PLD (Paladin)
WHM (White Mage)
RNG (Ranger)
THF (Thief, and only for Treasure Hunter)
MNK (Monk, and really only for Chi Blast)
BLM (Black Mage)
SMN (Summoner, and really only at 75)

Any of the other melees (DRG, WAR, SAM, DRK) are nowhere near as effective as RNG. With 10-15 million gil in gear, you MIGHT come close to a poorly equipped ranger, but it's doubtful. MNKs are useful in a singular capacity.

SMNs are handy, but people don't use them as often as they should.

This is 200 or so days of in game experience talking here, and don't get me wrong, play anything you want, but if you want to be crazy damage dealer guy, go for RNG or BLM. If you want easy parties, go BRD or WHM. Flexibility, RDM. Fun, go NIN or PLD (if you like tanking. I do.)

BST is GREAT though. It's a lot of fun and one of the richest classes all in all, and a level 75 BST is something to contend with. You can explore on your own and never need others to come along to help you. Very handy.

My two cents. This isn't flamebait by the way, so no rebuffs on how your DRK outdamaged a RNG once in an xp pt and how it's better. I'm just talking big picture here.

Well for me its all about ninja =) expensive but worth it for me, lvlv 9 you can go invisible, lvl 12 you have 3 shadows with a 45 second recast time lvl 15 you have about he equivelent of 4 blm spells all element except they weaken the mob to a different element. lvl 37 utsustemi ni the second blink spell, more shadows 5 second cast time 30 second down time, untouchable, high evasion, not 2 bad dmg ( can outdmg a pld) :)

I took thf to 30 then decided that the natural progression would be to move onto ranger. Ranger is by far the most sought after dmg dealing class. The only problem is that everyone and their uncle is now trying to be rangers! That's all I see anymore on my server, a bunch of rangers running around in AF (me included). I love ranger because you control the ebb and flow of the party pulls and what they pull. It can be nice and it can be a curse but all in all I love ranger. Right now I have Rng 62, Nin 30, Whm 37, War 25, Thf 40, Blm 26, and pretty much everything else is between 10-15. They are all fun in their own way, you just have to find something that you enjoy and stick with it. All jobs have a value in certain situations but I agree with asdf1, the preferred jobs for HNM and end game are what he has listed. Be aware that ranger and ninja are damn expensive at the high lvls.

OK to lv quick -
RNG -- > you will need lots of gill
whm -- bla bla dont like it.
BST -- nice you get every drop. lots of seals n gil this way.
SAM- lv some what fast.
DRG - Lv about the same as SAM.
THF get good lv once they get in the 33+
RDM, you can get easy party but now so many people are RDM a bit of competitions there.
PLD real nice n quick lv. If you like tanking go for it.
MNK WAR DRK, once getting i high lv You will have to start making your parties.
Blm lv somewhat quick 2- Specially in Mana parties -

Fi you moving to Rng I'll say get tosme lv with war to sub for ninja that you will sub for rng later
- so all you need will be war at 18 to get ninja to 37 to get you rng to 75.
good luck.
