The Halloween event is upon us once again and each year many players struggle to get those much wanted items. There is a lot of general confusion usually associated with this process.This guide will help save you money and dramatically reduce the time you spend trying for these items.

The common procedure is to trade one of each variety of sweets you can get your hands on to the various costumed NPC's around town per hour. Each trade attempt will give you a chance to get either a random costume item or change the appearance of your character for a limited time. To greatly reduce the cost associated with this event you need to know a few things. First, cookies work. Second, the cheapest way to obtain cookies is to buy from the vendors.

You can buy cheap Ginger cookies from the traveling troupe that resides in the nation currently first in conquest. Valeriano is the Troup NPC that will sell them to you from 10-13 gil each.
Another option if you're in Windurst and it's not currently first in conquest/you don't want to bother transferring cookies from a mule is Acorn cookies, which are sold in the Rarab Hostel in Windurst Waters from Ness Rugetomal (F-10) for 21-26 gil each. She also sells Cinna-cookies for 14-17 gil each if Windurst is currently ranked in at least 2nd place.

Now that you have a few stacks of cookies in your inventory I would suggest making a simple macro to speed up the process.

/targetnpc
/item "Ginger Cookie" <t>

You can replace the item name with the specific cookie you have purchased, obviously.

Now, the third piece of information that the average player may be unaware of is that while you can only trade one particular sweet per game day (real life hour) to get a temporary costume, this is not the same for receiving the random costume items! Simply trade your cookie to a costumed NPC. If you receive a temporary costume simply remove it as you would any normal buff and continue pressing your macro. The costume items are completely random. I have traded more that 3 stacks of cookies before receiving an item but I have also gotten one shortly after the other.
Using this method you will be able to obtain the following items:
Pumpkin Head
Pumpkin Head II
Trick Staff
Trick Staff II

To obtain the other four HQ items you must wear it's normal quality item while trading sweets to the costumed NPC. The item on the left is the item you must wear while the item on the right is the item that you stand to receive:
Pumpkin Head> Horror Head
Pumpkin Head II> Horror Head II
Trick Staff> Treat Staff
Trick Staff II> Treat Staff II

To get the Witch Hat/Coven Hat you must interact with the exorcist NPC in the city you're in. The locations for these NPC's are as follows:

Bastok Markets - Brian (G-9)
Northern San d'Oria - Gertrude (D- 8)
Windurst Waters - Roger (F-5)

They will assign you a witch to follow. Stay behind the witch while in temporary costume as they waltz around the town. The first witch will be relatively easy, just mind when she slowly turns around. If she sees you and removes your costume you must obtain a new temporary costume but your progress will not be lost unless you zone.

Once you have completed the event return to the exorcist NPC and remove your costume if it is still on. The NPC will reward you with a Witch hat! You must now wait until the next game day to be assigned the harder witch. Talk to the NPC with your witch hat equipped and you
will be assigned to follow the harder witch. This is a little tougher than the first but is completed the same way. Return to the NPC for your Coven Hat!

The Pitchfork and the Pitchfork +1 are the only items that you cannot obtain on your own. So find a buddy! For simplicity I will not list all the zones available for this part of the event. In a two person party, one member must have the costume listed on the left while the other member should have the costume listed on the right. Trade a sweet to the listed NPC for the costume type indicated.

Bastok Markets - Ghost/Hound
Ghost Costume->Trick Specter
Hound Costume->Trick Ghost
*Once both costumes are donned, group together at the Bomb Stand near the music shop (J-10)

Northern San d'Oria - Shade/Hound
Shade->Trick Phantom
Hound->Trick Skeleton
*Once both costumes are donned, group together at the Bomb Stand at (E-6)

Windurst Waters - Skeleton/Hound
Skeleton->Trick Spirit
Hound->Trick Shadow
*Once both costumes are donned, group together at the Bomb Stand near the cooking guild at (E-9)

To get the Pitchfork +1 you must travel to a different city and you and your partner must both have the Pitchfork (NQ) equipped. This part requires you to adjust your strategy based on the nation of your personal allegiance (this will apply to your partner and their allegiance as well.)

With your staff equipped you will be given the Goblin temporary costume by trading a sweet to the NPC specified. This is the goal.

Bastok Markets
Bastokian->Trick Phantom
San d'Orian->Trick Spirit
Windurstian->Trick Skeleton
*Once you have obtained your goblin costume head to the Bomb Stand at (G-4) with your partner and you will receive the Pitchfork+1.

Northern San d'Oria
Bastokian->Trick Bones
San d'Orian->Trick Shadow
Windurstian->Trick Shade
*Once you have obtained your goblin costume head to the Bomb Stand at (D-9) with your partner and you will receive the Pitchfork+1.

Windurst Waters
Bastokian->Trick Shade
San d'Orian->Trick Bones
Windurstian->Trick Ghost
*Once you have obtained your goblin costume head to the Bomb Stand at (K-6) with your partner and you will receive the Pitchfork+1.

Enjoy your Halloween items!

It's a good guide. But I'm not sure it's worth a full permi account. Maybe like 1/3 points or something?
