Easy Profit As A Thf, Then Double It : FFXI Submissions

Currently as a lvl 35 thief, I have a pretty solid strategy for farming.


I go out as a Thf/Rng with a Long Boomerang and my Merc Captain's Kukuri. I goto North Gustaberg and I climb Zegham Hill (Lower entrances at I-6 and I-8 )

I will clear the lower level on my way up to the second level (Entrance at J-7). When I get to the second level I clean out the area from the Entrance to the ramp to 3.

Mobs in this area:

Maneating Hornets: 1-2 Boomerang Throws
Drops: Honey, Giant Stinger, Beehive Chip, Insect Wing

Goblin Thug: 1-3 Boomerang Throws
Drops: Wild Onion, Beastcoin, Goblin Equipment

Goblin Weaver: 1-3 Boomerang Throws
Drops: Wild Onion, Beastcoin, Goblin Equipment, Miscellaneous Cloths

Sheep: 1 Sneak Attack (I try to avoid these)
Drops: Giant Sheep Meat, Sheep Skin, Sheep Tooth

Worms: 1 Boomerang Throw (I try to avoid these)
Drops: Flint Stone, Miscellaneous Ores

Stinging Sophie: Fight with Dagger, weak towards Gust Slash
Drops: Same as hornets + Beestinger

These are the daytime Mobs. At night you have access to Bats the drop wings for Sandy fame, Skeletons for bone chips, and Black Wolf for the dog collar. This collar is used in a quest in Bastok, or sold on the bastok AH for 5k (or as neck armor).

If you target Maneating Hornets as I do, they spawn in mass at dawn (when the bats and skeletons disappear).

Profits:

Beehive Chips: Common Drop, 8-10k per stack across all servers
Honey: Common Drop, 4-5k per stack
Goblin Equipment: 1-3k per piece
Wild Onion: 10k per stack
Beestinger: ~10k depending on stock and server

The beauty of doing this is that everything you get sells well, and if not sells for a decent price to NPCs. Always remember to Scavenge every 5 minutes, and steal/mug Goblin Thugs (Beastcoin > Pot of honey) every 5/15 minutes.

Now with the profits you get from this, you are going to level alchemy up to 20.

1-3 Tsurara ×10 Ice + Rock Salt +　 Distilled Water ×2 (Both from NPCs)

3-10 Deodorizer Wind + Olive Oil　 + Chamomile　 + Sage (All bought from NPC or guild merchant)

10-12 Poison Dust Lightning + Yellow Globe x2 (Fished or bought...I suggest fishing)

12-16 Mercury Lightning + Cobalt Jellyfish x4 (Same as globes)

16-18 Poison Potion Water + Mercury + Poison Dust (You already made these)

16-20 Echo Drops Water + Sage + Honey + Distilled Water (Sage is NPCed as is the water, The honey is NPC AH or farm)

Now as a level 20 alchemist when you go back out farming you can take crystals. I take 1 stack of fire, 1 stack of lightning, 1 stack of distilled water

Use Fire Crystal + Beehive Chips x3 + Distilled water

Face North West if you believe in putting in Fire influence to get HQ, or face South East if you believe in weakening the Fire influence. Personally I face North West.

The Beeswax you now have sells for 33k+

Fire Crystals: 5k
Beehive Chips: Free
Turned 5k into 33k

Had you sold the chips thats ~24k
By synthing it you get 4k more profit, and possibly more depending on your HQ rate.

The honey you have, make echo drops. You shouldn't fail too often if it all. THe possible profit was 4k per stack of honey, you now doubled it to at least 8k by using really cheap ingredients.

The armor you get, you have to decide how lucky you feel. You can either save it for later alchemy, sell it now, or desynth it. Personally I sell it due to the sporadic nature of desynthing.

The same goes with the giant stingers which can be desynthed into poison dust.


In this guide I only go up to level 20 alchemy because at 20 you hit a wall.

You have the options of:

Glass Fiber FIshing Rods (Glass Fiber Expensive)
Silent Oil (either way you need beeswax (33k per stack) and either slime oil (level 24 @ 18k per stack) or distilled water (level 29 @ insignificant))
Sairui-Ran Lots of ingredients and uses bast parchment @ 28
