Section 1: Preface
Goldsmithing is Final Fantasy XI’s most lucrative craft skill. However, it is also the most expensive. You will loose around 3-7 million gil raising your skill level to 80. Goldsmithing is for those who are willing to take risks and have those risks pay off in unimaginable ways. I bought everything from the Auction House (with some exceptions). I also realize that each server’s economy differs, but they are all pretty close. I tried to use accurate figures from my server, Caitsith. Please use my insight for profit and losses as advise only and check to verify my statements.
Section 2: Goldsmithing Skillup Guide
2.0 Introduction
I have tried my best to make this guide as user friendly as possible. For each recipe I give you, I will write an accompanying comment about that stage of Goldsmithing. To properly read this guide, each recipe has been set up in the following manner:
(Skill Level to Begin – Skill Level to End) Synthesized Item Name
Crystal Used + Required Ingredient X(Quantity) + Required Ingredient X(Quantity)
Example: (please note that this recipe is not used in this guide)
(28-33) Hiraishin X33
Fire + Silver Ingot + Copper Ingot
This is a very costly synth. Hiraishin only sell back to vendors at around ~1000 gil per stack. Stacks sell for around 2,500 gil at the Auction House, but they sell very slowly.
2.1 Skill Levels 0-10
(0-3) Copper Ingot
Fire + Copper Ore X4
If you have an Airship Pass (Rank 5), head over to Bastok with a few stacks of Fire Crystals (three or four is plenty). Enter the airship dock and speak to Denvihr. He sells Copper Ore at 10-12 gil each. You can buy as much ore as you want to without his stock depleting. If you don’t have an Airship Pass, buy it from the guild but do not pay over 20 gil. Depending on the price you paid for your Fire Crystals, you will either make a slight profit or break even on these synths. NOTE: For some odd reason, Copper Ore and Copper Ingots are under Smithing Materials instead of Goldsmithing Materials. If you start these at 0, you may fail quite often at first.
(Alternative 0-1) Copper Ingot
Lightning + Yagudo Bead Necklaces
This recipe is only useful if you already have hose lightning crystals and necklaces lying around, however you will see your skill fly from 0-1 in just a few synths. Don’t even bother with it if you don’t already have the ingredients. Continue on with the Copper Ore recipe once you run out of necklaces. Some players consider this a desynth, since a Lightning Crystal is used.
(3-5) Brass Ingot
Fire + Zinc Ore + Copper Ore X3
Buy the Zinc Ores at the Auction House, mine them yourself, or buy them from bazaars. I recommend buying them from bazaars. That is usually were you can find the best price. Buy the Copper Ore from the Airship dock, just like before.
(5- Brass Sheet
Fire + Brass ingot
This is why you save the Brass Ingots from the previous stage. Synth all the ingots into sheets till you reach level 8 and stop. These sell for roughly the same price as the Brass Ingots so you loose the money you spent on the Fire Crystals used to make them, if you decide to sell them at the Auction House.
(8-10) Brass Flowerpots
Fire + Brass Sheet X3
This is why you saved the Brass Sheets. These are your first decent moneymakers, just as long as you do not sell them in the Bastok Auction House. You can make about 1000 gil profit per synth if you auction them in Jeuno, San d’Oria, or Windurst. If you have any Brass Sheets left over once you hit level 10, use them for the alternative synth (Brass Scales) to earn yourself a few extra points.
(Alternative 9-12) Brass Scales
Wind + Brass Sheet
NOTE: NPC These
TEST TIME (ITEM: COPPER HAIRPIN)
Wind + Copper Ingot
Between levels 8-10. Either buy a Copper Hairpin from the Auction House or make it yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain a Recruit status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 20.
2.2 Skill Levels 10-20
(10-14) Brass Hairpins
Wind + Brass Ingot
Brass Hairpins are either a blessing or a curse. If you are patient, each brass hairpin you make will sell between ~100 and 200 gill profit at the Auction House or in your bazaar. However, if you are like me and make loads of items at one time, you will NPC them. They sell between ~200-300 gil to an NPC depending on your fame. That means you will loose about 400 gill per hairpin. You will also notice that your skillup rate is not as high as it was for your first ten levels. That is because every time you take a test to raise your skill cap, you will get slightly lower skill gains. Keep making your own Brass Ingots to turn into Hairpins until you reach 14.
(14-16) Silver Ingot
Fire + Silver Beastcoin X4
(16-19/20) Silver Ingot
Fire + Silver Ore X4
Using the Beastcoin method, you can actually begin making Silver Ingots at level 13, however, you will have a lot less breaks if you wait till level 14 to start synthing these. The price of Silver Ore at the guild ranges between 315 gil to 619 gil. The price of ore is based on how much ore was sold the previous day. Since the Goldsmithing Guild is closed on Iceday, the price will always be the lowest on Lightning Day. Keep all the ingots you synth. You will use them for quite a few levels.
TEST TIME (ITEM: BRASS HAIRPIN)
Wind + Brass Ingot
Between levels 18-20. Either buy a Brass Hairpin from the Auction House or make it yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain an Initiate status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 30.
2.3 Skill Levels 20-30
(19/20-25) Silver Hairpin
Wind + Silver Ingot
A very costly synth. You may fail some at level 19, but at level 22 and above, you should have a minimum rate of failure. DO NOT sell any of these to an NPC or at the Auction House. At level 24, I desynthed these back into Silver Ingots (Silver Hairpin + Lightning). Note that desythesis has a high rate of failure and a low rate of skill up. I got almost a whole level of skill up.
(Alternative 20-24) Brass Hammer
Fire + Bronze Hammer + Brass Ingot
Buy the Bronze Hammers at the weapons shop is Bastok. An NPC in the back sells them from ~330-350 each, depending on your fame. These will raise your skill pretty quickly, but they sell incredibly slowly at the Auction House and for a large loss. You can just sell them back to the Goldsmith’s Guild for about ~520 gil each. It’s a large loss, but you can skillup quickly.
(25-30 Silver Rings
Fire + Silver Ingot X2
These will raise your skill quickly. Save every single ring you make, cause if your sell them, you will loose a lot of money.
(Alternative 25-27) Silver Arrowheads X6
Fire + Silver Ingot + Copper Ingot
I recommend that you make these till 26 or 27 before you jump into making Silver Rings. They are much cheaper to make and the sell for a little bit of profit at the San d’Oria Auction House.
TEST TIME (ITEM: SILVER HAIRPIN)
Wind + Silver Ingot
Between levels 28-30. Either buy a Silver Hairpin from the Auction House or make it yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain a Novice status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 40.
2.4 Skill Levels 30-40
(30-33) Level 14 Jeweled Silver Stat Rings
Earth + Silver Ring + Level 1 Gem
When you run out of silver rings that you made yourself head to Jeuno to buy a bunch at the jewel shop. Located in lower Jeuno just past the AH. These will be cheaper than making them yourself.
Level 1 Gems are usually cheaper on the auction house then they are in the guild. Check both. After you run out of silver rings go to Lower Jeuno and buy them from the gem shop called Gems by Kshama.
At 35, or whenever you start to run out of space begin desynthing the rings to get silver ingots back. AH the left over silver ingots or save them for silver bangles at the 41-49 range if you want to.
All in all after 13-35 I ended up with about 4.5 stacks of silver ingots which I put in mog house for silver bangles, and a loss of about 320-330k
(33-35/36) Mythril Ingot
Fire + Mythril Beastcoin X4
(35/36-39) Mythril Ingot
Fire + Mythril Ore X4
You can either save all of the ingots you make or you can sell them at the Auction House. Selling them at the Auction House can be done in one or two ways. Firstly, you can sell stacks of ingots at the Auction House in either Bastok or Jeuno. Secondly, you can sell them individually in Jeuno. This way you can make a bit of profit. The reason for this is that a Mythril Ingot is a required item for Gobbie Bag Quest I. I recommend saving them because you will need them later on.
(38/39-40/41) Mythril Sheet
Fire + Mythril Ingot
You can start making these at 38 if you wish but Mythril Ingots do not cap out until 39. Take these all the way to 40. If you wish, you can continue till they cap out at 41. Save the stacks of sheets you make, you will need them again when you reach level 55 anyway.
TEST TIME (ITEM: CHAIN GORGET)
Earth + Silver Chain X3
Between levels 38-40. Either buy a Chain Gorget from the Auction House or make it yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain an Apprentice status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 50.
Test time at level 38. Go to the guild and turn in a Chain Gorget to Reinberta to attain Apprentice status.
2.5 Skill Levels 40-50
(40-48/49) Silver bangles
Fire + Silver Ingot X3
This is the first set of synths where you will feel a tremendous burn from skilling up. These puppies will take forever to sell at the Auction House. I personally sold every last one of them to an NPC. I then went into my Mog House and cried to my Mog for a long period of time. The other option is to desynth them when you hit level 49. I don’t recommend doing this unless you have Mog Enhancement: Desynthesis.
(Alternative 40-45) Mythril Ring
Fire + Mythril Ingot X2
Mythril Rings can be made at this level, however, I noticed that they are very slow to skill up on. If you decide to make a few, save them, you can use them later.
TEST TIME (ITEM: MYTHRIL RING)
Fire + Mythril Ingot X2
Between levels 48-50. Either buy a Mythril Ring from the Auction House or make it yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain a Journeyman status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 60.
2.6 Skill Levels 50-60
(48/49-51) Gold Ingots
Fire + Gold Beastcoin X4
(50/51-53) Gold Ingots
Fire + Gold Ore X4
(52-54) Gold Ingots
Fire + Gold Nuggets X6 + Gold Ore
I suggest you take a look at your server’s price for Gold Beastcoins, before you begin making them. A stack of Gold Ingots sells for 550K on my server. The bad news is that the price of Gold Ore and Gold Beastcoins fluctuates a lot. You can either make quite a bit of profit of them or take a huge loss. Also, you will fail a lot to start. I recommend you save every last Gold Ingot you make, you will need them later on. If you can obtain stacks of Gold Nuggets, try that recipe as well. If you can’t, then just pass it.
(Alternative 49-53) Jeweled Mythril Rings
Earth + Mythril Ring + Level 2 Gem
If you make either the Garnet or the Ametrine rings, you might see a slight profit.
(Alternative 55-60) Mythril Cuisses
Fire + Mythril Sheet X2 + Ram Leather
These sell at the Auction House at a considerable loss and to an NPC at an even greater loss. The point of gaining skill is gaining skill and not profit. If you caved any Mythril Sheets or Mythril Ingots, this is the time to use them. Cuisses have a great skill up rate.
TEST TIME (ITEM: MYTHRIL GORGET)
Fire + Mythril Sheet + Mythril Chain + Gold Ingot + Jadeite + Mercury
Between levels 58-60. BUY (DO NOT SYNTH) a Mythril Gorget from the Auction House. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain a Craftsman status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 70. Once you get your next rank at 68, things change a great deal, you will no longer going to be doing massive number of synths at one time and you will not see any more 0.2s or 0.3s.
2.7 Skill Levels 60-70
(60-64) Platinum Ingot
Fire + Platinum Nuggets X6 + Platinum Ore
You can save a lot of money by growing your own nuggets. If you cannot grow them, you can usually find a mule sitting outside the Goldsmith’s Guile in Bastok, with a Bazaar full of them. Do not sell these, keep them for the nest synth.
(59-67) HYDRO PATAS
Fire + Mythril Sheet + Animal Glue + Bone Patas
If you know someone that is crafting Bone Patas to level their Bonecrafting Skill, use this recipe. Sometimes, you might find a camper sitting outside the Goldsmithing Guild in Bastok, with a bazaar full of these.
(64-70) Platinum Rings
Fire + Platinum Ingot X2
Unlike every other ring synth, these typically sell at the Auction House for a breakeven/slight loss. If you can, save them on a mule(s). You can use them to make Jeweled Platinum Rings in the 90s.
(Alternative 64-6 Platinum Earring
TEST TIME (ITEM: MYTHRIL BREASTPLATE)
Fire + Mythril Sheet + Mythril Chain + Gold Ingot + Jadeite + Mercury
Between levels 68-70. . Either buy a Mythril Breastplate from the Auction House or synth one yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain an Artisan status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 80.
2.8 Skill Levels 70-80
(70-75) Ashura
Fire + Gold Ingot + Gold Thread + Uchigatana
(70-74) Sun Eings and Moon Ring
Place these up for auction after every set you make. They are typically break-even sellers, unless some super high-level crafter is trying to make their HQ versions and undercutting the price. Only make Moon Rings and Sun Rings, as they sell more often then the others.
(Alternative 72-7 Torque (or 68 +2 +Advance Guild Support)
Fire + Gold Ingot X4
You can obtain massive skillup on crafting this item, but you will loose 64K per synth.
(74-80) Gold Buckler (or 70 +2 +Advance Guild Support)
Fire + Gold Ingot + Targe + Mercury
Gold Bucklers are the cheapest item in this range to make repeatedly. Let me reiterate the repededly past. You will make lots of these. You can purchase the Targes from Zemedars in Bastok Mines.
TEST TIME (ITEM: TORQUE)
Fire + Gold Ingot X4
Between levels 78-80. . Either buy a Torque from the Auction House or synth one yourself. Go to the guild and trade it to Reinberta to attain an Adept status. This will allow you to raise your craft skill to 90.
2.9 Skill Levels 80-100
From here on out, I am just going to list the reasonable synths. You will have to mix and match because of ingredient rarity.
(77-82) Gold Spear
Fire + Gold Ingot + Partisan + Mercury
82 Iron Musketeer's Gauntlets +1
Fire + Gold Ingot + Iron Musketeer's Gauntlets + Mercury
83 Iron Musketeer's Cuirass +1
Fire + Gold Ingot + Iron Musketeer's Cuirass + Mercury
Iron Musketeer's armor is wonderful to skill off of if you have been saving your Conquest Points. Cause if you are willing to use your points to get the armor, you will actually make quite a bit of money off these synths.
(78-83) Death Earrings (Cap at 85)
Earth + Platinum Earring + Deathstone
The next stage will be purely earrings. Death Earrings sell very well on my server. Get to about 83 doing earrings. You can also do Sapphire Earrings, Emerald Earrings, Ruby Earrings, Diamond Earrings, Spinel Earrings, and Topaz Earrings.
(80-87) Elemental Bead
Wind + Elemental Ore
If you know how to grow Elemental Ore, synth Elemental beads till 87. If you want to grow your own Elemental Ore, check out a site called Pikko's Pots here:
http://www.swapsonian.com/pikko/. You you can make friends with a level 100+ Woodworker, you can make a fortune HQing Elemental Staffs.
(85-89) Orichalcum Ingot
Fire + Orichalcum Ore X3 + Platinum Ore
Orichalcum Ingots will take you to 89, expensive and profitable, at least on my server. You could then do Jeweled Collars to 90. Yes, Jeweled Collars are expensive!
(89-91) Orichalcum Earring
Wind + Orichalcum Ingot X2
(88-92) Muscle Belt
Fire + Gold Ingot + Brass Ingot + Manticore Leather
This is what I recommend!!!!
(89-92) Orichalcum Ring (Cap at 93)
Fire + Orichalcum Ingot X2
Orichalcum rings are a great way to get to 92, but i suggest saving as many as you can because you will need them to reach 100.
All the level 95 rings require Platinum Ring +1, do these. These are relatively cheap compared to what you are used to.
(95-100) you should do the Orichalcum Rings.
