Maybe you want to take a screenshot and post it on the forums, and make your chat box look like someone said something they didn't. Maybe you want to trick lowbies into thinking Morpheus or Neo just said something to them. It's all possible
The old method of faking chat was to use spaces, i.e.
Hi all I just got back Morpheus: I live!
But this doesn't work well, as anyone with a nonstandard sized chat log will be able to tell it's fake. For faked chat that scales to any size chat box, do this method instead:
Open Notepad, write what you want to say, i.e:
Hi all, just dropping by
Morpheus: OWNED
Copy this and paste (Ctrl-Insert) into chat. The line break will copy over and apply itself in your chat text. Keep in mind, if you're trying to fake tells or other types of chat than area, you'll need to add [Faction] [Crew] [Team] whisper to xx> etc and apply the appropriate {c:hex}text{/c} styles to make it believable.
Update 46 patch notes say /em will now work. If the emote feature correctly displays in syschat, we'll be able to fake system chat also. (You can currently fake syschat but it looks like area to everyone else).
/macro PWNED /emote laughs
{c:ff0000}%H hit you with a PWNED attack for 1337 damage{/c}
