HGL - Server And Website Downtime : FPS / MMORPG / RTS Discussion

As our early-morning Hellgaters have discovered, we are experiencing a service outage which is affecting the official website, forum, Shulgoth (US) server, and Test Center server. An update from Tyler Thompson, Flagship Studios' Director of Technology, follows:

The folks at our Data Center performed some unscheduled maintenance this morning, and it caused Shulgoth (US), Test Center, and our website to go down for a couple hours. We are sorry about this inconvenience – it caught us completely by surprise as well. Whenever possible we try to alert you about server downtime, but we had no way of predicting that this would happen.

Additionally, an announcement was posted on the official forums last week which said that Patch 1.2 would be launched early this week. Tyler Thompson also reported on the status of this feature-rich update:

Patch 1.2 is looking pretty good, but we are fixing some last-minute issues that prevent us from releasing it. (There is a problem in the current Patch 1.2 build that really messes up your data files if you install the game and install patches in a certain order.) I’m just as anxious as you are to see the e-mail, Marksman rebalance, the Desiccator and the long list of bug fixes go out to the big servers. I’m hoping that Patch 1.2 will be ready to release on Wednesday or Thursday, but until we have these issues solved and tested we shouldn’t release the patch.

At present, our Data Center is still working on restoring their service. As a result, the affected servers and websites may not be accessible in the interim. This news entry will be updated as new information on the outage becomes available.

UPDATE:
Here is the latest on the cause of the outage.

Our main router is broken for our websites and servers. We are currently waiting on new hardware to arrive at the Data Center. After it gets there, they need to install it. The last estimate that we’ve heard would mean that should be finished in another hour or two.

We understood that the Data Center company had redundant routers in place for us, but it looks like they didn’t have a backup working like they should have. Sorry about the delay. We will let you guys know more when we learn more.
