IGN wraps up their launch week coverage with an exclusive interview with the "Women Behind Sarah Morrison". Community manager April Burba, community coordinator Amy Crider and writer Gina Dionne sat down with IGN and shared their approach to playing such a highly visible character in an MMO game.
IGNPC: The idea of having a main character in the game that's played by an actual person rather than run by a script is very unique. Why did you guys decide to use this approach with Sarah? What sorts of advantages will it bring to have Sarah played by a real person?
Gina Dionne: Well, many people on the Dev team enjoy being in game and interacting with the players. So it was natural to want to have a live person playing Sarah. One of the distinct advantages to having Sarah run by a real person is that the players become part of the story. I've had quite a bit of experience organizing and participating in story driven, role-playing events, and it is exciting to know that you as a player are having an impact on the events unfolding.
Amy Crider: Also, having a real person behind the Sarah character allows us to respond quickly to things that happen in game, at that moment. She's not just an NPC that stays in one location spouting predetermined text. She's able to fight beside you and react just as a true soldier would.
