I recently purchased a premimum membership here and have set up a harvest bot and use the radar plugin frequently. I never leave the bot unattended (except maybe for a quick run to the kitchen) and i'm curious as to how likely it is that SOE will detect my bot.

I figure i'm not at much risk because I pretty much always watch the screen and use the bot as a way to make the tedious less tedious. But still i'm curious... Can SOE simply detect the Direct X hooks that Xunleashed is using and bann my account? Anyone know of other casual botters who have been banned?

Just asking, as I really enjoy this service but want to understand the likelyhood of being banned.

Thanks in advance to anyone who posts their insights or experiences.

There is always a chance you will get banned, the question is how big or small it is. Without using numbers (which I have no statistics to backup anyway) let's put it this way.

If you are NOT AFK botting you're odds of getting caught are pretty slim unless you do something stupid like... refuse to stop your bot while you're chatting with a GM cause it has a nice 'pause while chat' type interface... so why stop it *grin*.

If you are AFK botting your odds of getting caught go up, how much depends on what your bot is doing, how it does it and pure luck ).

What WILL get you caught?

If your bot looks/acts botlike... not good

Your bot doesn't act botlike but completely ignores tells and you have the bad luck to have the wrong person send you a tell....

Your bot has an automatic reply feature and sends the same reply over and over... (especially with no delays to account for typing time)

You get the idea... SOE knows there are botters out there, they have an eye open but they really aren't after the casual botter (they would lose half their user base), they are after the guy who bots AFK for days on end... crafting for days... that kind of thing.

When I am NOT afk I feel very safe botting, when I go to watch a movie I keep a pretty good eye on the bot and have a tell sound to let me know when I get a tell. I don't bot overnight or while not close by for long periods.

This is all of course, simply my thoughts on the subject and I'm sure there are as many thoughts as there are people so take it for what it's worth... to you ).

I hope this helped.

A few bots have an alarm when someone PM's you. This would be a good feature to implement!

Another thing I do with my crafting BOT is to change crafting societies every couple of days. What grabs the GMs attention is other players complaining about possible BOTs. Don't become like the furniture in the crafting instance.

Another thing to watch for is if the bot does dumb things...

For instance, one player got his name and a ton of pics posted because the bot was harvesting, and not noticing when nodes were already gone. So when another player, harvesting the same field, started watching and saw bot 1.) targetting nodes it didn't have line of sight on and 2.) going after nodes the watcher had just harvested...

Character never got banned :) SoE at least wants to catch you redhanned with a GM, character simply retired and leveled a new seeker.

I have to agree with the first two posts..

AFK is risky... and it escalates the longer you are botting.. It's darn tempting to just "sleep on it" though. Hehe, I'm really a "to heck with it" person, so if the char was banned, I'de start again.

But then remember, you may be playing WoW with a cd-key($40.00) attached to it... So that's risky business.
