During the hero selection screen -- after you log in and are prompted to pick one of the 3 heroes you have created -- if you tab out of the game, Hero does not properly cancel the tracking of your mouse clicks and movements. I know... a little confusing, so let me use an example that you can try if you want to replicate it.
First, open up notepad and make it full screen. Next launch the game then log in to your account. When you get to the hero selection screen, <alt>+<tab> to switch to your notepad application. At this point your screen resolution may be lower than your normal desktop resolution. I have 3 heroes and normally play the middle one, so in my case I will click somewhere in the middle of my screen. If I moved my mouse to where my middle hero would have been if the game screen was up, it should be doing a flip to the foreground along with all the sounds that go with it. Click again and the map loading screen should start doing its work.
Once the game actually loads it seems like they detect that Hero OnLine isn't in the foreground and they correctly stop tracking mouse clicks and movements.
Please post if you can turn this into something useful or find a similarly related bug.
