Terms:
noah: in-game money
k: one thousand
m: one million
o1*2*3: Olympia Severs 1, 2 , or 3
KO: Knight Online
NPC: non-player character / computer
Overview:
Merchanting allows players to trade items with other players ranging from weapons and armor to potions and scrolls. This allows merchanting players to sell items for noahs (in game cash), and allows the KO community a greater variety of items to chose from and use.
Tips On Buying:
* #1 Rule: DO NOT IMPULSE BUY! Many times you will see an item for sale that would really help your character improve their stats or help finish a quest... STOP! More then likely you will be over paying for items you can either easily attain yourself or buy at a much lower price. As a clannie, you will not usually have to buy your quest items, but if you must, first hunt and collect on your own. D
* Compare prices. Often there will be more than one merchant selling the item you want. Compare the prices and pick the lowest priced item.
* Check servers. Sometimes comparing prices isn't enough if everyone is selling at the same price. Try logging on to a different server and browse merchants there. Generally, items will be priced higher because no one has another merchant to base prices
* Haggle. Always propose a lower price for an item to seller, EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY OR THINK THE PRICE IS FAIR. Usually the merchant is willing to settle for several thousand / million lower than advertised price. It can be very hard to negotiate prices in KO due to the high volume of turkish players, however, simple mathematical expressions can get your trade proposal across e.g. "1 course bone = 20k ? ok?"
* Trade-Ups. Also a part of haggling is trading. Sometimes you can negotiate a lower price by offering trades for items that you have. One of the best parts of trading is the notion of "trade-ups." If you have, for example, Chitin Armor + 5, but would really like to have Chitin + 7, consider offering your old armor along with a lower negotiated price, for the armor you want. If this doesn't work, consider total cost of the armor after taking the price of the armor minus the money you can sell your old armor for. Sometimes getting better armor doesn't have to cost you so much.
Tips on Selling:
Selling is the best and most reliable way to gain noah.
* Time and money. Items can be sold at virtually any price up to 999,999,999 noah. You have the control over what item to sell and how fast it sells. A general rule follows: Money now is worth more than money in the future. The same applies in KO. It is better to sell an item now, and use the money to better your character, than it is to wait a long time for a return that may never come.
* Location. Won't neccesarily get you more for your items, but definately will help your items sell FAST! Here is a list of locations for you to sell specific items (some may seem obvious):
Lufterson Castle
Item / Location
Quest Items / Directly in front of NPC shymer
Potions / In front of Inn Keeper
High Class Items / On/In teleporter, Inn
Medium, Low Class Items / In castle doorway
Sundries / Inn
Moradon
Quest Items / Bottom of steps near Sentinel
Potions / DO NOT SELL
High Class Items / Back/middle of moradon; w/ cluster
Medium, Low Class Items / Middle of moradon; between staircase's
Scrolls / On/In magic anvil
Unique Items / Back of Moradon; top of 2nd staircase
* The Lowest Price. Consider the lowest price you are willing to sell an item. This price should never show up on your merchanting window, but should be the price you will settle for if someone wishes to buy or trade.
* UNDERSELL THY NEIGHBOR. Accompanied by the lowest price rule, use this rule to lure consumers away from competitors and to attract consumers to your stall.
Basic concepts of underselling:
- if selling a weapon/amor/shields, depending on class, sell for 1m-5m lower than neighboring stalls. If weapon is worth under 10m, sell for 1m lower than neighboring stalls.
- if your lowest price to sell at is being beaten, wait until market stabilizes to sell the item
- if you are selling Quest Items, sell every item 10k lower than neighboring stalls. If no other stalls have your item, choose a price somewhere inbetween the prices you have seen the item go for, and your lowest price willing to sell e.g: silver feathers HIGH: 400k LOW: 50k Your Price: 150k. Once stalls open that do have this item, adjust accordingly.
* Diversification and Item Selection. Being a good merchant means knowing what to sell, and when to sell it. If 30 people are selling the same item, wait until tomorrow when there are 5 people selling it and overall less competition. Diversify your items. NOT INCLUDING QUEST, do not sell all weapons, all armor, etc etc. Choose from a variety of items that will not only sell for the highest price, but that can also be used by all four classes in KO: priest, rogue, warrior, mage. This will ensure that you get the most attention you can out of the pool of buyers.
* List-Price. Sell item for 5m more than you think its worth (if nothing to compare to; 10m and up items). After setting list price, let people haggle down 5m to the original price you want to sell at. People are more inclined to buy when they see items prices reduced, even if it is reduced to a price more closely resembling an inflated value.
* Quest Item Market. Often scrutinized for the low prices at which to charge given quest items, this market is undoubtedly the most effective in gaining noah quickly and in large amounts. Not only does it allow you to gain money, but you also gain xp while collecting the items. Here is a list of the items you should sell categorized by price you can sell them for:
HIGH (100k-200k): silver feather, tyon meat, talsiman of talia, talisman of destruction, animal blood, blood of glyptodont
MEDIUM (50k-99k): glyptodont bezoar, smilodon meat, smilodon hide, course bone, rotten eye, zombie eye, bee sting, goblin armor
LOW (20k-49k): skeleton, wolf hide, black silk spool, gavolt wings, gavolt scales
I hope this was helpful to you all. If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me and I will be happy to answer your questions.
*** prices are based on my success with pricing; if item is not seen here, i either forgot it, or it is not a quest item
