What is a Tailor in Middle Earth?
Middle Earth Tailors are creators of Light and Medium types of armour, and Pennants used by Captains for their Heralds (Loot drop Recipes). Light armour is used by Loremasters, low level Hunters, (till level 10) and Minstrels (till level 15). Medium armour is used by Hunters (at level 10), Minstrels (level 15) and Burglars. Champions use Medium Armor till level 20 (then switch to Heavy).

Choosing a profession set as a tailor:
The preferred crafting profession for tailoring is Explorer, as it is the only profession set that includes Forestry. Foresters are able to “boil” various types of hide into leather that tailors use for armour crafting. If you have Tailor as part of another profession skill set you will need to have someone boil leather for you. The other skill sets that include tailor are Armorer and Yeoman.

How do you become a tailor?
After you are out of the newbie area and instance (Archet or Thorin’s Hall sequences), visit a Master or Mistress of Apprentices. You may choose your profession free of charge but will need to buy the tools of your trade from a nearby Provisioner.

How to I get new crafting recipes?
Recipes can be gained as you craft armor. Each Tier of expertise opens new recipes. Recipes can be purchased from Tailor Trainers/Vendors (one and the same). Recipes are looted from goblins, orcs and humanoids.

Materials needed for armour crafting:
You will need hide that has been boiled, spools of thread and cloth. Hides drop from creatures. Not every creature drops useable crafting hide, and those that do drop it, do not drop it every time. Spools of thread and cloth are purchased from the Tailor vendor/trainer in the crafting area.

Hide Sources:
Hide is dropped from wolves, bears, boars, lynxes, wargs, cave claws, bats, aurochs…

Hide types are : Light, Medium, Sturdy, Pristine, Exceptional. These are dropped by creatures in areas which are related to the level of creature killed. For instance, the light hide is found in beginner areas, Medium as you mskouove into areas such as the Lone Lands and around Trestlebridge in the North Downs, Sturdy in Kingsfell and east of Ost Guruth in the Lonelands, Pristine as you move into the Trollshaws and Angmar. Exceptional Hide is reported to be in the deeps of Angmar, the Misty Mountains and the Ettenmoors.

Leveling up:
Although you can advance in Forestry by processing both hides and wood, in order to advance in tailoring you need tons of hide. It is easier to advance in your forestry skills but you will need to kill large numbers of creatures to advance in tailoring. Accept any donations of hide from your kinmates! If you have chosen the Explorer crafting profession, you will be able to trade metals and dye ingredients for hide as well. You will need approximately 68 boiled light hides to complete the Tier 1 apprentice level, 132 more to complete Tier 1 Mastery. If you actually wanted to make a full set of Rough Cloth Armour, you would need 98 boiled light hides for a set. Keep in mind every creature does not drop the needed hide, and you have quite the boarish massacre on your hands J Luckily, many of your quests require you kill creatures whose hide will speed you along on your crafty way.

Required Tools:
Tailor's Tools (must be equipped)
Workbench
Crafting Armor:

How to make an item or multiple items:
To begin crafting either right click on a Workbench or click on the crafting icon on your toolbar. It is on the far left and looks like an anvil. To make a single item click on "make item" at the lower right of the crafting creen. To make multiple items either use the arrow next to the number of items box to change your number or type a number in the box. Recipes that you have the required ingredients for are green on your recipe list. Next to the recipe is listed the number of items you can make with the Materials you have. If you run out of inventory space as you are crafting the crafting process will stop and you will get an on screen error message that you have no room in your backpack.

Customization:
All items you create will have your name or "maker's mark".
The only further customization is via purchasing dyes from scholars to color items in limited hues.

Mastery Options:
Once you have mastered a Tier in Tailoring, you will be able to use specific creature dropped and looted items to enhance your item and its components. In order to add these items while crafting:
1. Select the Mastery options tab (at the bottom of your crafting panel)
2. Have the enhancement item in inventory.
3. Check "Use Item" check box (upper right in crafting box).
4. Select "Make Item".
5. Note that you have a 44% chance to make a better item with the mastery option which gives your item additional armor values.
6. For each item made with the Mastery Option ingredient, you have a 5% Critical Chance to make an item that adds to your character's base stats.

Coming soon, the recipes ...
