You used to be able to repair by quitting the game and on the last second pressing F10(some of you will be familiar with this), clicking the repair man on another character, pressing F10 again, logging, going on the other character and then using the repair window. It can't be done this way anymore.
Get someone to right click on you and get ready to transact, when the dialog comes up accept to transact but as soon as you do press F10. You'll now be able to log out with the inventory still up. Goto the repair man on another character click on him, then press F10 again so the inventory screen disappears then log off again and log onto the character you want to repair things on. The repair window should still be up and you should be able to repair items.
The blacksmith window will show the items of the character you use to get the repair interface up with back in town. You should have afew items on this character because this won't refresh until you have repaired something (make sure it's something you actually want to repair in it's place and not hero or low dura things etc.).
You can also use this method to join the guilds of other races or get a bald haircut as you ussually would.
