Dear testers,

Once again we present to you the latest DevNews. As you might have noticed, our periodic release has changed a bit. Please note that in the first DevNews we informed you that the period between DevNews can and will change over time. The developers are getting busier and busier as time progresses therefore it may not be that easy to squeeze information out of them ;-)

1. Do you can give us a short roadmap till November? Lets focus on what changes will come for testers without dates.

We’ll introduce :
- the final fight system, with new stats management, and four skills also based on the final system (they will replace the one we have)
- a simple quest sample, to check the mechanics,
- a sample of fortress assault (involved in the conquest mechanics)
- the final public transport system, with teleport networks
- the brand new GLSL shaders oriented engine which we’ve been working on for monthes (different graphical aspect and faster)


2. There are new and up-coming multi-core cpu generations arriving on the market. Has DnL any plans to use such features as multi-core or 64-Bit architecture?

Yes, we are seriously thinking about it and we studied the subject. For now, we focus on the November release, but this will probably come a bit later.


3. What influences the gain of experience? Precisely, which world states and what player stats influence the amount of experience a player gets while fighting?

Character experience is both combat and social experience. Each experience point you get brings you closer to your next level (100 combat levels, 100 social levels). Each time you gain a level, you also gain combat or social skill points you may use to increase the skills your have, according to the path you chose.


4. About the so called "neutral" state, is it possible to have entire neutral guilds who own terrain?
There are no "Neutrals" in the first sense in DnL. Each character is either Dark or Light. But a character can become wanted for some time, and can be hunted by former allies and enemies alike. When a Wanted character dies, he/she gets his/her former alignment back.


5. Right now, there are only some testing spells and skills in beta. When or how soon do you plan to implement the real and final skills? Of course those won't be final…

The final skill system will be introduced at the end of August or beginning of September, and will probably be tweaked until release, according to your feedback.


6. When will the final classes be implemented into the beta?

Classes depend on skills. At the end of August or beginning of September, we will implement the final version of the 4 axes (Citizen, then Fighter, Spellcaster, Healer, Hunter) and the new skill system. In October or beginning of November, we will add the 14 classes, plus the explorer class.


7. There aren't many armours and weapons in beta, when do we get more armours and weapons? (axes, long-swords, knifes, bows,….)

"When" often comes back in questions, and we perfectly understand your impatience. The answer to this question will be the same as before: indeed, we are finalizing many things at the same time, which will be implemented at the end of August or beginning of September.


8. When will we have ingame npc/merchants for trading/buying/selling?

Mmmmh, shall I answer this question too? Ok, so let's say... at the end of August or beginning of September.


9. Concern: Players feel that you don't trust them because you're not going to let them test new features… In the last DevNews you stated that that those things are tested internally. Players don't really have a good feeling about how those features are being tested.
What makes Npcube so sure that these features don't need any tests?

We are sad to see that each time we try to communicate, it doesn't work as intended... and we will probably sack our marketing manager, as well as the 250 people working for him (warning, humor inside). In any case, this is not about a lack of trust towards betatesters, although, as we previously said, a few of them have disappointed us a lot by not following the terms of the NDA.

Are there features that do not have to be tested? Of course, there are none! But many think some of these features will take 6 months full time to balance, although we know that 2 or 3 weeks tuning them will be enough, because our game is not based on the same mechanics as the competition. We may be wrong, but we'll know it when the game is released. For now, we want to accept the challenge
