Me and my friends are looking for our first mmorpg to play. CoH looks like fun and something that is cool but we played Diablo 2 for years and I"m wondering if the lack of item collection henders the game? Evercrack I know has item drops but I'm not sure if I feel like getting into that whole mess of hardcore players. Is there any reason to kill other than to just lvl up?

As a diablo 2 fan myself and I also play COH I will offer my advice.

Go for World of Warcraft. Nothing will come close to it for a long time.
It's by blizzard, same company who made diablo 2 and it has !@#$%^&* loads of items. probably 50x more then d2.

COH has really no items, just a handful really. It got boring after 2 weeks and i will not resubscribe for another month.

Thx for your input. I was worried that playing for very little rewards would get boring. I think I'll wait untill WoW and EQ2 come out. Thx

gamestop seems to think that WoW is coming out in 9/2004 which would be like what August? i dunno im not good with months but anyways with how blizzard did with warcraft 3 WoW might actually come out sometime in 2006. I really love blizzard tho i played Diablo 2 for 4 years before it got boring and here after playing CoH for like 2 weeks it is getting decently boring

After researching several existing and in-development, Darkfall is the only mmorpg that will outperform other current ones and ones in development. here http://www.darkfallonline.com/

If you have such shallow expectations and want to play in a glorified graphics chat program, rather than a very broadly designed game, then do play WoW and EQ.

If you want to actually want more freedom to shape the virtual world and have more character purpose and role-playability through more interactivity with other players, rather than computer controlled ai, then follow Darkfall.

EQ and EQ2 are both stupid. They both suck. They were killed by Sony.

List of games that look good:
Matrix Online
Middle-Earth Online
CoH ( I play CoH, and it's "ok" for now, but there is a lack of items and rewards, and is kinda repetative.)

So far, I'm looking forward to seeing Matrix, Middle Earth, and WoW.

Oh my god.

The Matrix Online...Middle Earth Online...? Shoot yourself if you think either of those are worth touching.

Dodging bullets with a dated effect 50+ times sounds really fun, about as fun as rolling around in the shire with twin fags and your pudgy lover as a frodo clone.

I usually don't post on these forums, but...really.

Aren't you special. What do you have a better idea for good games coming out. What, like Evercrack 2? HA if anyone says they're looking forward to THAT they should shoot themselves.... EQ has about 400,000 expansions, and so will EQ2. Sony is just trying to get your money. Not to mention a bunch of stupid "uber powergamers" play EQ.

I agree with him on WoW too. It seems like a glorified chatroom.

Matrix does look kinda sucky thanks to the combat system and stuff. The combat seems stupid, but being a hacker sounds cool. Kinda like a crafter, but u can infect ppl and stuff it sounds really cool to be a hacker, but to be a "soldier" sounds !@#$%^&*.

and Middle-Earth... you don't have to be a hobbit. You can be a hobbit, dwarf, human, or elf.... (LOOK IT UP B4 U FLAME n00b)

But lately there haven't been many (Or should I say ANY) good looking games around in terms of MMOGs.... the games out right now are really sucky, and that's sad... the companies can do better than this crap! (ie: SWG, EQ, EQ2, Matrix, etc.!!!

On a score of 1-10, the "average" of the games out now, are about 5. PATHETIC!

" (LOOK IT UP B4 U FLAME n00b) "

I've looked it up. I've tried the last game they worked on using basically the same engine, I've followed their boards, and I've read their plans for how they want the game to run...

suck or not...
most players are not going to enjoy that game. It will nab the same market still enjoying Star Wars Galaxies... a nice market... but not everyone.

MMORPGs are getting so diverse it's not even worth arguing which are good and which are bad. With MEO, however, I feel confident stating Turbine doesn't have the capacity to make the game everything they say they want it to be by the point it has to be released.
