Global Chat Handle

Every player will have a name that they are universally known by. This is your handle and it remains the same regardless of what character you are playing at the time, or what server you are on.

Your Global Chat name is the name of the character you first log in with once the feature is implemented. In the case of duplicate names (cross server) a number will be placed at the end of the name.

Players may change their GC handle only once with the following command: /changehandle <user name>

There will also be a Change Handle option in the in-game menu options.

Friends List

There will be two friends list in City of Heroes now. Your current friends list will become your Server friends list. It will not change in any other way. You will also be given a new Global friends list. This is where the handles of your friends will be listed. The Global friends list will track the following:

* Status
* Server Name
* Team Size (if grouped)
* Level
* Archetype
* Origin
* Current Map (Atlas Park, Steel Canyon, etc.)

You add someone to your Global friends list with: /gfriend <user>
You remove someone from your Global friends list with: /gunfriend <user>
You view your entire Global friends list with: /gfriend
You may hide & unhide yourself from your friend’s lists with: /ghide & /gunhide

Sending Messages

You send a message to a player with the following command: /tell @<handle>, <message> (Note the @ and the ,)

You may also use the Global friends list to send a message by right clicking on a name.

Chat Channels

Players can create their own chat channels. As long as there is at least one person in the channel, the channel will remain. To view channels you belong to and their members go to Menu then select Channels. This will bring up a new window.

To create a channel: /chancreate <channel name>

Channel names may be up to 15 characters long and will appear in the currently selected chat Tab. You may also create a channel by clicking on Tab then using the Edit Tab option.

To join a channel: /chanjoin <channel name>
To leave a channel’s membership: /chanleave <channel name>

Note: It is good practice to create a new chat pane for Global Chat channels, or a new tab. This will allow you to communicate in GC without using a long command.

To send a message to a GC channel regardless of which chat pane or tab you are currently in: /send <channel> <message>

Chat Channel Commands

The player who creates a channel is the Operator by default.

Enter –join for the mode to lock the channel, making it private. Use +join to open it back up.
