Ok so obviously this topic is pretty dead, but i though id put up a quick mini guild to the first few areas....
The first area is diffrent depending on if you have the full version or are a froob.... I have personally only played as a froob, but know how the full first area works...
First i will talk about the froob verson. The first Thing you must do is go around doing every mission you can find. This will help you gain exp and easy but important items. After you have gainde a level or two, which should take almost no time, you will start to kill the smaller mobs around the island. After each kill you should loot the remains ans sell your findings to the shop.... When you reach lvl 4-5 you will move up to kiling the harder boss mobs. At first i suggest teaming up with someone just to get the feel for the battle, but be warned that you might not get the swet loot that the boss drops. There are about 5 diffrent bosses on the island. The first 4 are on the beach, just walk around untill you see the shiny mob. Continue this for a little while untill you deside to go to the real world, the time to do this is completly up to you.
The full games first area is very simaler in technique if not in design. You are in the back yard of the city, there is only one good way to get out of this area... It is a quest you get from talking to the guide, You first ask her for help and to tell you about the game. then say you enjoy doing quests... you will get a series of missions to kill leets and visit the merchant... the Beauty of the mission is that it is redoable...ive used it at lvl 59 to get thoses last few xp points....
After leaving the island, or back yard, you will have full access to the world... At this point i sugest doing some of the solo quests and getting some items and cash build up, or you can team up and try the harder team missions... At first you should try to gain a few levels, get to lvl 6-8, before going into the subway... Getting to a higher lvl wll allow you to traverse into the depths and harder mobs without having to deal with the smaller annoying one...
Once you get to Lvl 15 and can no longer getinto the subway you must make the long journey to the temple of the three winds. First travel to old athens and take the whoompa to tir... Leave the city and head north... Now this is not a long trip, but is very boring so i sugest auto running to the border of the area. Once you travel through the area border, load up your world map, and follow it to the temple, which is north....
What you do at the temple is up to you. there is a stratagy but i am to tired to write it now so i might later..
Please excuse the spelling and typos in this reply, i am ware i have no grammer or typeing skillz...

Ok. Here is my list on how to level in AO. Now, im not so experienced, and have only gotten to lvl 113 myself. But here goes
FROOB:
0 - 6 (10): Noob Island
6 (10) - 20: Subway (Either in Rome, Borealis or Athen)
20 - 60: Temple of the three winds
60 - 100: Biomare dungeon in longest road, or try to get a team as soon as possible to do cyborgs in Mort, north of meetmedere.
100+: Now, here it starts to slow down a bit on leveling for a froob. I suggest you keep hammering cyborgs in Mort past lvl 100, since they are good xp income. And you should also by now be familair with missions and how they work. So doing harder missions at this point is a good thing. Team missions for most mobs, xp and fun. Solo missions for token runs. Try to get to 1k tokens as soon as possible if you are clan or omni. If you are neutral, make sure you grab the cyborg token board of the borgs in mort. Another good spot to check ouit is the temple in broken shore. level locked at lvl 110 though. So past that, you cant enter. (Crypt of home) Alot of nice froob items in there. Like the popular panther/pained panther for 2he proffessions, armors and other nice weapons.
And also, there is alot of dyna bosses out in the wild in every level range to get nice xp and items from. Make sure you have a good world map that marks em out. As a froob I guess its the best way to get xp and cash at the same time.
Paying customer:
0 - 6: Noob island (dont leave untill you have gotten atleast 2 ai levels. 3 if you have the energy to stay to level 15.
6 - 20: Jobe backyard / Subway. No big point in doing the subway if you are not in for the ncu ring that drops of eumenedes (spelling?). Do various wildlife mobs in Nascense up to level 30 - 40 atleast.
40 - 60: Totw for the good items that can be gotten in there.
60 - 100: Nascense hecklers.
100 - 150: Elysium Hecklers.
150 - 170: Scheol hecklers ?
170 - 200: Adonis hecklers ?
200+: No clue what to do for SL lvls. inferno and penumbra mobs I assume
The last couple of levels im not sure about, since I have only gotten to level 113 myself, and im not that much of a power leveler. I thought id give some ideas atleast. But just explore the world, and always try to kill as hard mobs as possible for maximum xp.. Just remember not to power level if its your main. Cause when you hit like 190+ in lvl, and have a crappy weapon, crappy implants etc, no one will team with you, and you are probably poor, with no clue on how to aquire credits..
Most important.. Have fun! And dont forget about tokens

You can get into CoH over 100 if you team with an engineer of the level to enter. He can do a beacon warp to bring you inside. I have done that with my engineer for Orgmates. Just ask any engineer level 70ish up to 100 to team & beacon warp you. Then he will need to help you with the levers for the main door to enter.

You can also do web searches for the different professions in AO. I have seen some for martial artists, agents and soldiers.

Galder,
Even 'til you're level 24 (the last level you can properly enter/exit subway) there's still reason to stay in there.
You'll need a high-level party (at least a bunch of 5 lvl 20-24s) to take on the bosses like Abmouth....ok mostly Abmouth.

If you are a paying customer, you can go to penumbra at level 150ish and maybe get a team for medium difficulty missions, excellent experience points. Later around level 170ish you should be doing penumbra hard missions. After that, move to inferno and do some missions there for levels 201-220.

If you are thinking of playing AO, do yourself a favour and ignore most of what has been written above...especially SL adive from players that dont have SL

For paying memebers, I think Scheleo is bit useless, so 100-140 at elysium hecks and then adonis, and soon as posible pen misses. 200+ is mostly pen/inf misses maybe something from panded too. Not all sure about, but at that point you should know.

ok, i know this topic is pretty much looong dead, but i think i have a much better description for paid players.
lvls 1-40 you should fight mobs like the tigers in nascence, lvl 12, hiathlins, lvl 17, move onto crip cave and then to croakers.
lvls 40-72 fight nascence hecklers.
lvls 72-100 fight spade mortiigs in ely.
lvls 100-140 fight elysium hecklers.
lvls 140-160 fight adonis hecklers
lvls 160-190 do penumbra missions.
lvls 190-220 inferno missions.
Note: at lvl 160 you are allowed to enter penumbra and doing inferno missions can be good xp as the team will kill mobs way faster than ado hecks would have died, at lvl 160 you may get 1-2 lvls per mish(this is from personnel experience as i did an inferno mission at lvl 161)
you can prob trust my guide i got a lvl 203 enforcer.
