My view on Final Fantasy XI |
|
I have a few pet peeves about the game...
First, I am tired of the rudeness other player give you if you happen to stop in an area to rest that a lottery nm happens to pop in... I recieved quite a few tells asking me to basicly leave that they are camp the particular nm... and it is always by farmers who believe they have more of a right to an item that anyone else does... and there are starting to be more and more of them.....
Second, I think there should be more ability to solo and get levels on the game... yes I know they designed it as a party game... but in some classes dont ever get asked to join parties at lower levels., sometime even higher ones.. becouse of their weak abilities and with BST inherient danger of the mob turn on the party... or even the fact you have a JE flag on your /sea all [playername]...
Third, if you want to stop rmt then do one basic thing, put a cap on all items to say 10-15X what a npc would give you... that way you wont get the people who just farmer high priced item and remove gil from the game... yes those LS who do ecnm with suffer.. but if it lower the cost of playing the game the isnt it worth the little bit of loss of gil from an party... isnt xp what everyone is suppose to be after not gil?
Well, that is just my take on the subject, I know there is going to be a lot of thread about how impossible or unfair this opinion is... but I am also a member of the FFxi family and I deserve an equal chance to play, hunt, die and collect NM treasure as everyone else does...
I am just a player with a dream of getting to 75thlvl anything solo

My pet peeve is:
GM's are so ghey they need a real life and real friends
GM's need to actually show people what they're banned for
GM's need to get that dcik out of thier asholes and stop picking on people for dumb things
GM's should all go to hell
POL help service can be run by my 10 year old brother
POL help service can shove it cause they are useless
POL help service needs to hire non-recentely immgirated Mexican's named Juan, Carlos, and Jose who were my helpers the last 3 times I called.
POL help serivce needs to integrate their offices casue they say they are not in touch with the GM department.
FFXI is starting to become whack, the economy is falling and there's no reason to buy a EXP set with 3 jobs and a woman cat as the president.

Deal with it

The only real way to stop RMT is to make every item that cannot be purcahsed at an NPC, EX. Make it so it cannot be traded or sold to anyone.
Though I would love to get rid of RMT's, this would make me quit the game most likely. It would make things way to difficult to obtain.
Think of it like this though -- if people did not buy currency with real money, there would be no market to sell it.
I have no interest in ever buying gil online but to stick up for the gil buyers (and this is the only reason I could agree with buying gil). Your life is essentially worth a certain money amount per hour you waste. If you are willing to pay $50 to save you 10 hours of farming time, thats your money. You work your job to make $50, takes maybe 10 hours if you dont make much but lots less if you are an adult making $15-25/hr. To someone like me that has little time to farm, it would be better for me to buy gil online.
I still do not agree with buying gil because I no longer have respect for people with items that can be purchased or traded, just because they have the items. Now, a complete idiot can have HQ versions of every item in the AH or bazaars. RMT companies now even offer cursed and god, rare/ex gear services ... great huh?

And thus ends...
We can discuss the morals and the ethics, the implications in and out of the game, the politics and economics, yet we won't come up with a universal answer to the issue.
Probably someone will call Phil, The Prince of Insufficient Light upon me for a blatantly obvious transgression of the Analogy Policy, but I put this issue in the same context as prostitution.
The only way to stop it is ceasing the demand.

You can't blame RMT for being entrepeneur's can you?
RMT is a multimillion dollar business with low overhead costs. The legality is in the grey but still it's a great start up business for people with a certain degree of programming skills.
You may say I support RMT but I don't. I support their fundamental entrepenuerial sense that money is made in anyway. Gold, gil, characters are virtual, they are easy to make and easy to obtain. All you need is man power and which kid wouldn't want to play games for a job? It's a perfact match.
I mean if I knew some programming I'd essentially do what this site does, find bugs and exploits to a higher degree. I'll have opened up my own RMT it is a multi-million dollar business. When it comes to exploitation there are no morals. You either want to make money in a smart way or you want to live with nothing but high morals.
It's really difficult to choose for an American to choose between money and morality. Where as for the Chinese its money before morals.
